How do I make an Avatar System? (Cat - Help me? >.<)

So, a couple of friends and I want to make our own Avatar Forum with an avatar system, like that of this site, Roliana, etc.

However, I can't really seem to find out how to put all my knowledge of codes together to make one.

So, can someone tell me how to make one? >.<

(Cat - I'd really appreciate it if you'd tell me how you learned to do it! xD)

I use the phpbb2 forum software, Cash mod, a semi-modified nulavatar mod(the avatar system), ADR mod(battle system), modified quest mod(the maps feature), and a few misc. mods.
The ADR system includes the shops feature, but if you don't want ADR on your forum you'll need to find a separate shop mod.

But it isn't just click a button and everything is installed, you have to do allot of editing to the main files of phpbb.
I found a really nice site that has lots of tutorials/resources for making an avatar site but I lost the link. DX

Well, I kind of just looked at the View Source on Roliana's "My Avatar" page and dissected it.

I know how to make an avatar system! WOOT! xD

Well, I'm actually going to tinker with this avatar code I just taught myself an hour or two ago from looking at Roli's code and see if I can make a more personalized version of the system.

I've downloaded all the Mods I want the site to contain, but how do I know where to put them, exactly?

Is that info in, maybe, a ReadMe file or something I looked over? >.>

Hmm? Are you editing it just by copy pasting the source of Roli's nulavatar page? Cause it doesn't work that way.
You have to edit the nulavatar files themselves. ^^


First thing you need to start installing mods is a FTP, I use filezilla.

I also suggest finding a free host that supports php so you can practice installing mods. And also, the nulavatar install file won't work, but I can send you the install file that does?

Yeah, I just copied all the info, but I know how to fix it.

I'm pixeling a really simple base as we speak, with some pretty basic items, so I can change the values and start getting everything set up.

Anywho, my friend is going to be buying a domain for our site in a few weeks. Maybe sooner since I got all these amazing links to all the stuff we'll be needing! ;D

Yeah, can you e-mail me that download of the NulAvatar thing? I forgot it would need to be installed into the forum to work. xD

One random question first: What did you use to host this forum? My friend probably knows what kind of provider she wants, but I'd like to look around and see what would host a forum like this with the ability to mod it into an avatar system. :3

Okay, and now the questions from my friend:

Does it matter which version of the Cash Mod I download? (One's on Zarath, one's the other link.)

When I go to install the files to Mod the php, will it matter which order I download them in?

I use iWeb.com, they've been pretty good with the support and the servers are really fast. [edit - I take that back, they crash allot.. I suggest looking for a different host >.>']

I suggest the Cash mod in the link.. not Zaraths. And yes, you need to install them in a certain order.
Mods usually have lists of other mods needed for them to work.
And most of the time they need to be installed before hand. So you couldn't install ADR then install the cash mod, it would just not work. xP
