| I plan on trying some sort of craft soon at my program if I get around to going to a craft store for yarn and such. I'm stuck between crochet (which I did once before) and needlepoint...Any recommendations of which I should go for?

| I'm thinking of needlepoint just because I've been watching this one person part of the group do it, and it looks simple and neat. But not sure still. I might be better off starting crochet because it could make useful things...But I bet needlepoint can be useful too... Hrm~

| Juneberry, I think that depends on what sort of thing you like. The hardest part in crochet is getting tension right, after that it's pretty simple and really flexible. I happen to think needlepoint is prettier but I hate hand stitching anything so it's not for me. If you're having a hard time choosing maybe you should do a really small project of each or a project that involves both. Although if you were going to needlepoint onto something you crocheted, you'd probably would want to crochet with thread which I wouldn't recommend for someone just starting out.

| Yeah I think I'd rather do them separately, plus I fear small needles. Thus why I want to do something with quasi larger needles....Maybe I'll stick to crochet first thinking on that train of thought. ^^; But I think both are lovely. o3o Thanks for the tips Sharm! One day that type of project might be neat~

| I don't know if it counts as sewing or not but I used to play around with weaving chainmail. I just found a shoe box filled with unused links a couple weeks ago.
It was mainly for looks. I would just wind a wire around a dowel rod and snip them down the line with metal clippers to make the links. Then use needle nose pliers to weave them in a 4-1 pattern. Of course that was when I was still in the Society for Creative Anachronisms. I should try it again. I never did finish a full set of armour.

| Making chainmail is pretty awesome, and pretty crafty. I don't have the hand strength to do it. My brother was doing it for little bit but he got bored very quickly. I'm not surprised that you didn't finish a shirt, that's a lot of work!

| -Sneaks in quietly.-
I love crafting and artsy things. I'm currently working on developing a pop art painting series and a jewelry line with hand sculpted beads and such based on my paintings. Unfortunately I have no pictures to show. But maybe in the future.
On another note:
@Juneberry: Why are you so scared of small needles? They won't really bite. Practicing with the is really the only way you'll manage to control the needle and avoid stabbing yourself with it too.
@Freshie: The bottle looks quite nice. I haven't really been following the thread though, so if you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on doing to the pendants?

| I tend to be clumsy and when I sewed a pillow in school I remember getting pricked quite often. That, and I tend to think of them and blood work combined. They can't use bigger than a butterfly needle on me because, sadly, I have my mom's super tiny veins that would be broken by bigger needles ;-;

| Ah, I guess the association doesn't help, but needlepoint needles aren't -that- tiny though. Also, after working with a needle over a long period of time you develop slightly rougher skin and it's harder to prick yourself. .gif)

| Really? Maybe I won't be as nervous then. I was more interested in needlepoint (it just looks more fun), even though crochet would make more useful things. I might do needlepoint first and try the other. Hehe, either way...I need to get to the craft store first xD

| Going to the craft store might definitely help! And needlepoint is used more to decorate things rather than create useful objects. You could always try to get a hang of the basics and then experiment on what you could potentially needlepoint afterward. .gif)

| True. I know someone who does a lot of needlepoint and makes little door hangers and placemats for her family, but we can't really use those much at my place so it might be pointless. If I can crochet a scarf or something that might be neat though. One day I'll make a sweater. In the far future.
