When Editing Avatar

Hey, I deeply apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but I am new and haven't looked through all the past threads.

Anyway, I noticed on my first time making my character that the inventory screen is very confusing and not super easy to use - it's actually pretty difficult. Maybe some of the categories could be combined (like Vests and Tops?), also it's hard to unequip items or find them on the long list of 20 different "layers" so maybe the organization of the layers could be more smooth (Ex. have a bolded overall category like "Character Base" and then to the right of that have nose/mouth/etc, then underneath it, have "Tops" and have vests/shoulders/etc to the right of that).

Just something to make it more easy to use and more organized.

If I'm totally out of line hit me with a stick.

You're fine, haha. We do know that this is a problem, and we want to work on it. Just haven't really been able to. >_< The solution that you proposed has been back, and we will likely look into doing that (or something similar) whenever we can give the avatar system direct attention.

Your proposal of making certain things bold, however, could be temporary solution. Many people have trouble finding the Eyebrows-Base, Hair, and Ears layers. Those layers could be bold or something so that they are easier to see. Or maybe the list could be re-arranged somehow... Iunno. Just my thoughts on the matter. I don't know how difficult the whole process may be.

I hate to post in an old topic, but I just wanted to offer a liiiiittle tiny opinion on combining layers, and that opinion is no. < See, it's little. xD

Uhh. Anyway, yeah, don't do that please. More layers, while it can be confusing, means more things to wear on an avatar, and thusly, it makes more interesting avatars.

When it was discussed, I don't think Cat wanted to get rid of any layers or anything. Just combine the tops layers into a "Tops" button which would then expand to Vests, Over Top, Tops, etc.

So really, it just condenses the intimidating list: it doesn't get rid of anything.

Again though, we haven't been able to work on it. Just discuss ideas. And even still, I could have misinterpreted what Cat was trying to say.


That being said, everyone should feel free to continue to express their opinions on the avatar system. We're open to them. :]

I do agree with you, Squid. I want avatar layering to remain complex... I just would like it to be a little less intimidating for new users too.

Looking at the avatar system from the viewpoint of a newbie, I see that it seems very complicated - especially since many avatar sites have it a lot simpler so it would be hard to get used to this complexity. I like the idea of putting the different layers in groups, it would help you find the layer you're looking for easier. I like this idea.

On a side note: I'd love for the Faunus Satyris beards to be moved to the new Facial Hair layer.
