| I know what you mean, Sly.
I think a lot of languages are like that.
Probably because so many (or all, is it?) derived from one original language... or... something...
I think japanese and hawaiian sound a lot alike.
The sounds, like you were saying.
And the people also look very similar much of the time. >>
I'm not sure about that history, but... I should go look it up.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hawaiians originally came from Asia...
Inuits, too.
Seems like their origins could be Asian.

| Yeah, most languages did derive from the same original source or sources, so that makes sense after all, I suppose.
As for the similarities in appearance: I believe, if I'm not much mistaken, that Japanese and other Asians did at one time settle in Hawaii...hence why during World War II many Hawaiians were suspected of being Japanese spies. I'm not entirely sure about Intuits, but it would be logical to assume that some of their ancestors, at least, came from Asia too. Another possible explanation for genetic similarities would be the "Out of Africa/Asia" theory that anthropologists seem so fond of; which, if you didn't know this already, states that all humans originated from one or possibly two places, those places being Africa and Asia...although I think that theory is referring to the more Middle-Eastern part of the Asian continent.

Hmm, I'm totally gonna be shot in this thread for this but...
Everything that lady said, except for "coffee", sounded fine to me. >>;;
I don't imagine, though, that many Brits talk like that.
That to me is more of a proper accent that I've seen in movies set in older times...
But damn, her "coffee" just sounds stupid. xDD
The "eh" on the end.
Pahahaha!

*shakes head*
well there's your problem... never go by movies unless the actor is actually from the place theyre portraying XD some actors/actresses are very good with accents, but the majority get it horribly horribly wrong - that goes for any accents, not just british, too.
but seriously, NO british people speak like that women, not even the posh people. ahah. that woman in the vid sounds more like a bad caricature of the posh accent. if you wanna hear a "proper" british accent, watch the BBC news :P

| KEVIN COSTNER BURN!
I love that movie. Carey Elwes is kind of one of the sexiest men alive in my opinion.
I speak in a Philadelphian dialect, sometimes saying "wooder" instead of water. And my speech is also peppered with different languages, especially the few German words that I remember from last semester and the occasional Japanese word I picked up from anime.

| She aggravates me, more than people usually can. I don't even speak British English and it's confusing when she even uses American English.
I am from the South, and I have a Deep South accent and it's not really anyone's fault that they get an accent. It's just how they hear the words pronounced and used growing up. (I'm an American.)
She annoys me, I'll state it again and again, and that doesn't even sound like a British accent.

| I happen to have grown up in West Virginia so I have a hilly billy raised in a holler accent. (AKA You heard of Larry the Cable-guy?)
In fact I got told by someone from Kentucky at the college I attend that I have the thickest accent they have heard.

| Hehehehe, nice, nice! xD
I'm most familiar with Cajun accents, seeing as I grew up in south Louisiana.
And then I have family in north Louisiana, which is a more country/Mississippi-like accent, so I'm pretty familiar with those too. >>
Though I barely have any accent at all.
Just on a few sounds, and it's faint.
And I say "y'all" <<;

| Haha, that's hilarious, I can't believe she thinks she's good at that.
But anyway, I have an Australian accent, and I don't think there really is a specific dialect, apart from some people that have a really "blokey" accent.

| [color=darkorchid] I think the big interest in accents, in general comes from the fact that it's something different than you're used to hearing all the time. At least that's the case with myself..... [\color]

| I can understand that, sort-of, because I quite like the german accent.
But... Not to the point I've had people go on about mine.
People would hear me speak and go OMG KUPSY IS AWWWEESSOOOMME!!! Just because of it lol
Not that I'm saying I'm not awesome....
I'm not really that awesome.
