Griffyn ran through the forest for a long time, letting his wolfy instincts kick in. About 3 hours or so before the sun decided to rise he finally slowed down and sniffed the air around him. His nose wriggled almost like a dog's as he prodded around a small clearing looking for food. In some brush he spotted a rat. Before the rat even saw the predator his neck was broken in a second. He pawed at the rat for a couple of seconds. He wasn't going to eat it of course, but it was fun to hunt, and the animal in him enjoyed it.

After playing with the dead rat he stalked away and began to run again, but this time back to his clothes. He wasn't far away from his clothes so it took only 10 minutes to make it back. He picked his clothes up with his mouth then changed back into his human form. Quickly he changed back into his clothing then began to walk towards the academy.

A couple minutes later he was in his dorm. He took off his shirt and ran a hand over his defined abs then removed his pants. With a huff he fell on his back onto his bed only wearing his boxers. He recalled his day before he fell asleep.

Alex... he thought. She was new and mysterious to him. He liked new things suprisingly. Especially when the new things were super sexy with delicious smelling O- blood. She was like nothing he ever laid eyes on or smelled.

He was supposed to start looking for a human to be his mate so he could make new pure blood babies. His nose wrinkled as he realized he was looking way to far ahead of himself. But maybe... NO bad thoughts Griffyn. he chastised himself before dozing off.

(If no one has noticed, Phyre's type has changed to red.)

Blaize saw the thoughts whipping around in Phyre's skull. She knew that vampires loved O- blood and he could almost hear the click in her head that all the guys would be flocking to her like mad.

He also saw when her eyes lit up with delight about When In Rome. "Come on, love," he said, wrapping his arm around her waist. He knew she liked that.

Blaize escorted his lovely little human to the lounge and popped in the DVD. During the movie, he questioned their relationship together. Was it really friendship? Sometimes it felt like she didn't care whether they were friends or not. Sometimes it seemed as though they were the best of friends. And sometimes it appeared that they were almost a couple...

Maybe he should talk to her about it sometime. But for now, he was content with just holding her as they watched their movie.

***

Blaize stretched and yawned. Nearly midnight, already? He looked down at Phyre and smiled.

"Come along, missy. I may be a vampire, but I'm a studious one. We've got that test in science tomorrow." He tickled her ribs lightly and stood, giving her a soft kiss on her forehead. "Good night, Saphyre. Sleep well."

Blaize left the lounge and went to his dorm room, which he shared with Jordan Wellings, a pompous younger vampire, only recently turned but thinking he was the king of the vampires.

He shrugged out of his clothes and climbed beneath the covers, thinking about Phyre. Ah, Phyre. She was really a big softy inside, he just knew it. He worried about her sometimes. She seemed so lonely. Sure, she had a million guys to pick from, for a friend, a boyfriend, an "FWB" (a term that Blaize hated.) But did she really have someone to rely on?

Blaize sighed. What a lovely girl...He closed his hawk-like eyes and drifted off.

"Night." She said standing up and turning around before Blaize could see the blush on her cheeks. She really adored how Blaize treated her, like a princess.

She began to walk back to her dorm in a tired daze, her eyelids drooping. God, she was so tired, she couldn't wait to just get back to her room and plop on her bed.

Tiredly she pushed open the door to her room as she arrived then began to strip down. She didn't like pajamas and didn't have to worry about a roommate seeing her in her panties and only her panties.

After she took everything off she plopped onto her bed and set her alarm clock with a groan. Why did Blaize have to remind her about that stupid science test that she deffinitely didn't study for. Ugh.

She rolled over onto her side and slowly drifted to sleep. Throughout the night she dreamt of Blaize and her childhood friend Grif.

Alex had hoped for a good night's sleep, but no dice. Almost as soon as she fell asleep, her old nightmares started.

Inky blackness...suffocating, tightening around her. It was so dark, there was nothing to see, nothing that could ground her to reality. She felt that she was floating, as if in the blackest, deepest water in the world.

She started screaming, but could hear nothing. It was silent here, too. No noise to even keep her from going crazy.

Alex ran and ran, her hands stretched out as though to block her from the things she could not see. It was so dark, so dark. There were no walls to get in her way, nothing that could stop her running.

She couldn't hear her feet. She couldn't hear anything. She couldn't see anything. Fear was a bitter taste in her mouth. But then...what is that? That pinprick of...LIGHT!

Alex hurried forward, sobbing soundlessly, hands stretching and straining to touch that little bit of light, so close and yet so far away.

What was that? What was that?

Hands were grasping at her ankles, pulling her, down, down, down...deep. She started to scream louder, and this time she could hear it. No, no! Not underneath! Not now that there was light.

She continued running, running, running. They kept pulling at her, cold inhuman hands tugging, beckoning her into the unknown, into the dark.

"NO! NO!" she shrieked. She tripped, fell, into a sea of arms and hands, grasping, pulling. Her wild eyes looked up at the light and saw it expand, glow brighter. "Please, someone save me!" she screamed. A figure emerged from the light, coming closer as she was dragged under.

She looked up as the light hit the person's face, just before the hands shoved her head below, the hands shaking her shoulders roughly.

"GRIFFYN!"

Alex awoke from her nightmare with a loud scream, still being shaken by the hands.

"No, no, no! Please, not the dark, anything but the dark!" she screamed, rocking back and forth as the hands let go. "Not the dark...not the dark," she continued to whimper.

Phyre jumped as she heard screaming in the room down the hsll. The not so welcome screaming noises woke her up. They seemed to be coming from Alex's room. Quickly Phyre jumped out of bed thinking, 'Did someone loose control and bite her?'. It was a possibility since she was a blood type O-.

Phyre swung open the door to Alex's room. She instantly realized that the girl was dreaming. The first thing she heard was the girl mumble in a terrified or suprised voice 'Griffyn'.

As the girl in bed sat up in the bed Phyre jumped back out of the doorway so that Alex didn't notice her.

"No, no, no! Please, not the dark, anything but the dark!" Alex screamed as phyre listened just outside the doorway.

Phyre had the strong urge to walk into the room and start cracking up. But no, she had a better plan.

Phyre tip-toed away from Alex's bedroom and back to her own. She snuggled down into her bed and closed her eyes watching her plan develop behind her eye-lids.

Alex finally fell back asleep, at one o' clock in the morning and, if it weren't for the alarm clock that was Phyre, she would have missed the first lesson.

Alex shot out of bed and hurriedly dressed in her little blue-grey-and-black plaid skirt, white button-down with the long sleeves, white thigh-high stockings and the black shiny Mary-Jane like shoes, with the sparklingly clean silver buckles. She tied her tie as fast as she could and wrapped her navy cape around her shoulders. She grabbed her bag from the nightstand and rushed out the door.

As expected, Phyre was not waiting for her outside her room, so she found the classroom on her own, using the map that her mother had conveniently packed in her bag the night before. As she walked into her class, a minute after the time she was supposed to be there, her bag turned over and spilled all her books everywhere. Her face burned with embarrassment as all the male faces turned to look at her, and she knew she was blushing, which was very rare for her.

She knelt down to pick up her books and hurriedly shoved them into her bag, before rushing to the seat next to a tall black-haired guy that, after regaining her composure, she recognized as Griffyn. Phyre was in here as well, along with Blaize. A lot of the guys looked rather…desperate, however. Almost…hungry?

Alex shrugged. Whatever. Thinking of hunger made her hungry. After all, she had missed breakfast.

Blaize smiled and tsked sympathetically as Alex’s books fell out of her bag. The blood that rushed to her cheeks made him remember just how tasty her blood would be. He moved to a seat that was a few behind her and an aisle over, so that if anyone of the male students jumped her for her blood, he could protect her.

This also moved him closer to Phyre, who was sitting behind Griffyn. He saw her slip a note over his shoulder, smiling coyly. He frowned. He hated people that passed notes in class, but whatever.

“Hey, Phyre,” he whispered. “Are you and Alex getting along well?” He sure hoped so. He really wanted Phyre to have a friend, a real friend, not just a guy friend like he and Grif were. He figured that, with as nice and polite as Alex was, she would not only be a good friend to Phyre, but also a great influence on her attitude.

Phyre woke up bright and early, chipper over last night's idea to torture Alex. She actually paused for a moment while singing in the shower and considered what she was doing. Was this really worth it? I mean...she was obviously prettier...wasn't she?

She leaned in close to her fogged up mirror in her shower (full-length, so she could be even more conceited) and rubbed her arm against it, frowning at her reflection. I mean...I've got big boobs...good body...my hair is amazing... She frowned even deeper. But my skin always looks so oily...and I get freckles if I'm in the sun too much...and my hands and feet are HUGE. And my eyes are WAY too small.

In truth, there was probably not a thing wrong with Phyre's body. But she had low self-esteem issues. She hadn't grown up with a mother to tell her she was beautiful, but instead a step-mother that, while far from being an evil step mother, wasn't a real maternal figure in her life.

Phyre shrugged and continued to wash. Yeah. It would be worth torturing Alex. After all, whether Phyre was prettier or not...

That stupid whore had O-.

Phyre finished her shower, blow-dried her hair, straightened it, applied her makeup, and got dressed in her very nice uniform. She roughly woke Alex up, hiding a smirk as she realized how tired she looked. Aww, poor baby didn't get much beauty rest, did she?

She left, knowing that it would take Alex a while to get ready. She checked her watch. Ah, she had about a half hour before class. Phyre decided to go to the lounge and see if Griffyn was there.

He was, of course. He was almost always there.

"Hey, you,"
she said, hugging him and smiling up into his serious face. "How'd you sleep?"

She plopped down on the couch and switched on the TV. A Klondike bar commercial was playing on the set and it made her think of when she and Griffyn were kids.

"Hey," she said, chuckling, "Remember that time that we stole that tip jar from the ice cream shoppe?"

Griffyn smiled a slight smile as Phyre gave him a hug. He had been there for hours. Hell, he'd be up at about three in the morning. He hadn't been able to sleep much; he kept thinking of Alex...dreaming of her. He usually was awake pretty early anyway, but today took the cake.

"I slept alright," he lied smoothly. He sat next to her and stared blankly at the TV.

He snapped out of it when Phyre spoke and frowned. No, he didn't...wait. Yes he did! He laughed, a rarity for him. "Yeah, but then remember we returned it, because we felt so guilty about it?"

"Yeah, but not before we spent some of the money on ice cream!"
She laughed. "Oh, there's the bell. Let's go." She hurried with Griffyn to their first class and sat down behind him.

Griffyn's heart leaped as Alex came into the room. There was a sort of ripple in the room as the vampires leaned forward in their chairs, trying to get a whiff of her...or perhaps a bite...as she passed by.

He frowned, somewhat annoyed, but then smiled as she sat down next to him.

Phyre glared subtly at Alex as she came and sat next to Griffyn and her. She felt movement behind her and sensed that it was probably Blaize. She saw long blonde hair out of the corner of her eye and confirmed it.

Diverting her attention to Griffyn again, she saw him smiling over at Alex. Well, that just would NOT do.

Griffyn frowned as Phyre passed a note to him over his shoulder. He took it quickly, not wanting to get caught by the teacher, who had started the lesson by now.

Remember what we did when we were finished eating the ice cream? she had written.

He did, and blushed at the memory. She had kissed him, being still just a little kid with a crush on the older boy. Still, it had stayed with him for many years, probably because he had felt nothing but brotherly affection for his little flame of a girl.

Phyre felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to look at Blaize. Her green eyes flared at the question but she smiled sweetly.

"Yeah, we are actually. I'm gonna walk her to her next class. I think we're actually gonna be great friends."
As she turned away she smirked. Yeah. Great friends.

Griffyn decided, having been passed a note himself, that he would pass notes as well. He quickly scribbled out a note to Alex.

Hey, there. Sleep well?

Blaize was slightly taken aback by Phyre's response. He had expected her to say no, with some sort of snappy retort. This sugary sweet smile and tone made him very suspicious, but he just nodded. "Well, that's...that's great!" said he, still slightly shell-shocked.

He leaned back in his chair as she turned back around and frowned, looking up at the lesson on the board. What was Phyre planning? Some sort of evil trick? He didn't like to think of Phyre as a mean person, just because he really did like her. But if he were honest with himself, he would say that Phyre was a mean person.

Blaize sighed. Maybe he was overanalyzing it. Surely she wouldn't lie to him! And she had said she would walk her to class...that was a very helpful and kind thing to do. No....she wasn't being mean at all.

Alex saw a small piece of paper land on her desk and looked up, surprised. Griffyn was smiling at her, so she figured it was from him. She unfolded it and read his lovely handwriting: Hey, there. Sleep well?

God, it was as if he knew. Maybe she looked more tired than she thought. Even after having fallen asleep at one, she still had nightmares, each of them involving the dark and Griffyn. He was always there, but trying to help her out of the darkness.

Alex shook her head, feeling her dreams clattering around in her skull and falling to the back of her mind. No more thinking about that.

Alex wrote back, trying to make her already neat handwriting neater:

Hi. No, I didn't sleep very well, I had a lot of nightmares. It happens a lot.

She glanced up at the teacher and, when they had turned their back, flicked the paper onto Griffyn's desk.

Griffyn quickly swiped the note off his desk and into his hands. He opened it and looked at her beautiful writing. Nightmares? He had his fair share of those himself. He started to scribbled back a message when the bell rang.

He stood up with his bag and flashed a dazzling smile to Alex and said, "See you later," before leaving the room to walk to his next class.

Phyre jumped out of her seat as the bell rang and walked over to Alex. She wanted so badly to glare at her because Grif had been passing notes with her and said said goodbye to her but not Phyre. But, instead, she plastered a smile on her face.

"Hi Alex, want to walk with me to our next class?" she asked and looped her arm around Alex's before she responded and began pulling her to the door.

Alex had to remind herself to breathe for a moment when Griffyn smiled at her. Damn, but that man had some white teeth, albeit a bit sharp around the canines.

She stood and gathered her things up. It was only after she had picked up her sheet of notes that she realized he hadn't had a chance to respond to her note. Damn. That wasn't very good...

She blinked when Phyre came up to her with a big forced-looking smile on her face. The redhead looped her arm through hers and began pulling her away.

"W-wait, I think I can find my way," she said futilely. The girl was relentless, pulling her down the crowded hallway. Useless.

Blaize was going to escort Alex to her next class but as he looked around the classroom for her, he couldn't find her. He allowed himself to breathe (which he didn't do often around humans, especially ones with such tasty-smelling blood) but could only catch a fleeting lick of her scent. Hm. She must be in a hurry to get to class.

He shrugged. Perhaps he would see her in his next class. He gathered up his things and left.
