| Different people react different ways, I guess. I read and watched Death Note when I was 13 and didn't have much of a problem, but I've always been somewhat mature for my age and had a firm grip on reality, even if I choose to act as if I don't sometimes.
I'm glad you're making that kind of decision. I wish more parents today were involved, or at least aware of, the things there children watch on TV or the places they go on the internet. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like something his parents could have prevented. My mom and I talked long and hard about the show when I expressed an interest in it before she decided it was okay to watch.

| Whee music!
I need to join this conversation. *ahem*. Death Note. I read the first half when i was 14. After that part in the middle with L and spoilers I got bored and stopped. The violence didn't really mean anything to me personally. The concept was cool and I know I've chatted with my friends about would you write anyone's name. I think we're all sane enough to have said no. Light clearly has control issues but never seemed to not understand the effects of his actions so much as didn't care. Maybe the Death Note messed with your head. L....is awesome, end of story. The manga wasn't very bluntly violent, it's not like it's full of guts or anything, even though ideas are definitely dark and violent. The anime I've just seen a few episodes of on [as] and the opening and endings feel a lot darker and more violent than the show ever really gets (at least on screen). One of the openings is not something meant for young children, what with the f word being in it, though adult swim pretended to translate it into something else. What's Up People. That one. As for other children and Death Note in particular, it really depends on the household. Some parents would be really opposed to violent themes and a few swears being viewed by anyone under 16, maybe even older. Others may be fine with 13+ watching it since there isn't anything explicit in the series. Anyone under 13 I would definitely say at most the parents should watch it with them. Or just find something more suitable like... Something not on Adult Swim. Though I did watch Wolf's Rain and everything else that was on then at age...13. Blood, violence, swearing, boob shots on some other shows. Yeah, I was clearly an over-exposed child. But I turned out fine.
Oh...wait...

| Well I think if my aunt and uncle had been paying attention to what my cousin was watching and telling him what he could and could not watch he might not be where he is right now. I fully intend to know what my son is watching and if it is something I am ok with him watching without me around.

| I know but only if the parents don't check up on there kids every now and again. I mean I'm not expecting my son to not watch something he really shouldn't be watching but I will expect him to at least come and say hey mom my friends told me about this cool anime can I watch it? Because I will teach him to be that way kids can only learn if you teach them and if you choose not to teach them then they are never going to learn and thats why there are so many bad kids out there today.

| I think it's mostly an issue with trust and attention. I mean, kids will most likely watch things they are not supposed to watch, just because their friends have told them about that and they want to fit in the group, and other similar reasons. Now, you could just decide not to have a TV and the internet, but they could always go at their friend's house, etc., etc.
I think what people should do, instead of just trying to control what their kids do, is to listen to their kids and teach them to trust them. So if they watch or hear something and have questions about if a certain thing is ok or not, they are not afraid to go see their parents and talk about it. But for that, the kids need to know they can trust their parents, and that they will listen to them when they talk, and not just go "Yeah, yeah, you can do that." or "NO!" without even listening to half of what the kids have to say.
Gah, anyway, good day everyone! How are you?
