The Age of Rain

"Pillow." Eris said as she twitched again.

Nearby the evil self appointed Queen of the new Earth, and her posse stood in a forrest clearing examining the damage done to the area.

She rubbed her changed spider like fingers over the bite and claw marks in the trees and ground.

"Who ever has changed cannot have gotten far," she announced, remembering her own transformation and the crazed pain she had went through that had caused her to attack her partner.

Shainae smelt the ground around the clearing intensely.

"I can smell something else," she said. "Something that has yet to change. Something, human."

Eclectica's eyes darted quickly to her friend.

"A human, here, near a changling...???" she asked curiously.

Shainae nodded. "And, not just one changling, two."

Eclectica grinned evilly and rubbed her spider like hands together.

"This is just perfect," she announced happily. Then she let out a shrill scream into the forrest.

She hoped that the scream would affect the new changling as much as she remembered sound had affected her during her transformation. Then she and her group went to continue into the forrest until Shainae stopped them.

"The scent ends here," she announced. "It's almost as if they just vanished."

Eclectica grimaced angrilly. "What do you mean Vanished???"

Shainae looked at the others hoping that one of them would help her out of her awkward situation, but no one would meet her gaze other than Eclectica.

"Oh - I, I don't know," Shainae sighed. "I just can't smell their scent any more. Maybe they just flew away...???" she added hopefully.

Eclectica raised an eye brow. "Flew you say...??? Then, we too must fly."

Shainae and the others looked at each other anxiously. None of them had transformed into creatures with wings.

"How...???" they asked.

"You will all just have to climb all these trees until you find the one that they are hiding in," Eclectica grinned wickedly.

The others grimaced and sighed.

"NOW," Eclectica roared, and the others set to work at climbing the trees.

((Narration))

Dania quickly rushed and fetched a pillow as a shrill scream entered the air. Lanyia shivered but acted quickly placing the pillow over her new friends ears trying to stop the worst of the scream affecting her.

When the screaming stopped she removed the pillow from her friends ears and placed Eris' head upon it.

"They're closer than I thought," Lanyia announced more to herself than the others.

A sudden scream hit Eris's ears, sounding a million times louder than it actually was. The pain shot through her like lightening and she screamed herself before sitting up quickly, still cluching her head. At this point she was a little crazy with pain and wasn't making the best choices. Like jumping out of the tree to go and try to shut up whoever just yelled.

"Hey hey hey, settle," Lanyia soothed, she puffed up the pillow trying to make it more comfortable. "Just lay down, we'll look after you, and we promise we won't let anyone hurt you, but if you run off now, we can't be sure what those ... people will do to you."

Lanyia had paused on the word people she was almost certain that what danger she felt coming was no longer as human as she was, or even as human as she considered her new friends. These things were not nice, and they had only malicious intentions.

Lanyia shivered with her sudden realisation, that regardless of what they might do to another changling, it would be worse for someone like her, someone who had yet to change.

Eris did as she was told and layed down, making the pillow cover her ears.

Lanyia looked at her friends helplessly. She had no idea what she had to, or should do, to keep them all safe, all that she knew was that the one who had screamed would soon find them, and when she did... all Lanyia would allow herself to think was, it was going to be bad.

"That's good," she said as calmly as she could manage to Eris. "It's going to be... okay."

Lanyia prayed that it would be.

She curled into a ball and closed her eyes, keeping the pillow on her ears tightly.

Lanyia sat down beside Eris and stroked her hair absent mindedly.

"It's going to be okay," she told herself silently. "It's going to be okay."

Eris twitched less and less as time passed.

Without much knowledge of how she managed to let her guard down Lanyia drifted off into an extremely deep sleep.

She moaned occasionally as she had nightmares of what tomorrow might hold.

Dania sighed. She wondered how they were going to escape. She could fly a small distance with one person holding on, but not two. She sighed again, and closed her eyes, soon falling asleep.

Eris was the first to wake up, rather early since it was cold. She taught herself to tell then it was day or night by how hot or cold it was. She looked around, getting a much better look at her surroundings since the changing had stopped, at least for now. He first change, her eyes and teeth, had gone for many days, starting and stopping randomly. She sinffed the air wearily to see it her ability to smell was stable. It was but much much stronger now.

The first thing she smelled was B.O., most likely from her new companions. The next thing was earthy and fresh, strang for this new world. She assumed it was from the plants that now seemed to thrive thanks to the fact that humans had fallen to the bottom of the food chain.
Another thins she smelled was people, if you could call them that. they smelled similar to her companions but at the same time completely different. They also were pretty close.

Lanyia awoke from her deep slumber with a muffled scream. She had managed to roll onto her stomach during the night and found herself face planted on the house's floor.

She struggled to yawn and stretch the sleep out of herself, nearly as much as she struggled with where she was. It took her a few moments to remember the situation that she was in. And with the realisation came a dread, that she would not have imagined possible.

Her whole body shook with fear. She placed her hands in front of her and watched in amazement as her fingers twitched and shook like crazy.

She looked up and noticed her new companion was staring at her. Although she still looked weak, and tensed every so often, she looked remarkably better than she had the night before.

"Morning," Lanyia muttered.

Her eyes quickly darted to the direction of a nearby scream.
