I turned 17 this past September 10th. Birthdays have never really been a big deal for me...Didn't have a Sweet 16, haven't had an actual party since I was...7, I think. Really, it's usually just my parents, little bro, and myself having a small cake either my mom or I made from a box mix after dinner. Maybe we'll go out for dinner. My dad wasn't even here for my birthday this year, since he was on a business trip. His job involves a lot of travel. He was actually 11 hours ahead of us at the time. This year kind of sucked, since I had surgery 2 days after my birthday to have a chemo port put in. (I don't have cancer, but I need chemo anyway for a freaky rare disease I have.) I'd been feeling like crap prior to my birthday too, since I'd had a fever for 16 days straight, and all kinds of other fun stuff. Originally, the surgery was supposed to be ON my birthday, but the surgeon couldn't do it that day. I didn't even get to spend the day in school with my friends this year, because I was sick still. I basically spent the entire day continuing to feel like poo.

I'm a senior in high school, but the cut-off date's after my birthday, so I SHOULD be a junior by age...There's actually a set of twins in their junior year that are less than a day older than me. They were born the evening of September 9th, 1996. I was born early morning on September 10, 1996. I'm smart enough for the school to not bother holding me back though, so whatever. I'll be going into college at 17, like my mom, whose birthday is in December.

I will agree with the idea that age is just a number, but in certain circumstances there are lines that shouldn't be crossed. Birthdays don't seem to be big deals as we get older.

Granted, I'm only going to be turning 21 in four months, but after elementary school they don't seem to matter. The only ones that actually count usually are 13, 16, 18, and 21. After that it's pretty much just every 10 years and you feel awful for getting older. I'm just assuming from what I see.

Kacey: I don't think that I had a sweet 16 either. I only had family get together like stuff since I can remember. My birthday is in January so it's always so freaking cold that it's not fun anyway.
Starting college sooner is pretty good though. Take your time getting through it though. The experience won't last long and then you start the rest of your life. I'm only at the college part though xP

None of my birthdays have ever really been that great, but I've always had 'a little extra' for the milestones of 16 and 18. For my 18th, though, that was good, I had a nice proper special night out with family for a chinese, quite nice. Otherwise, the only person who's ever been that bothered about getting older was me.

After a while, I stopped getting stuff on my wishlist too, which was rather annoying, since I only got money...and getting just money had a net result of getting less monetry value that if I'd got the prezzies. The money I got was never enough for what I wanted, or was strictly ordered to be for driving lessons (my 17th). Birthdays are only good when you're 13 or younger, after that they're crap.

I remember thinking that turning 10 would be awesome since I would have two digits in my age instead of just one. Then I actually turned 10, and it was very meh, so after that I stopped caring about age. xD

Birthdays used to be fun. I'm thinking that I should just do something for myself for my birthday. My dad will probably want to take me to Reno to a casino. He tried to take me last year but then remembered I was only 20 so we just went to eat at one of the restaurants. The food was totally worth it and my dad knows I like to stay in the highest floor with an available room.

The point of this is that after 20, start planning your own fun because that's all you're going to get for the most part. And take any money you can get for whatever it's worth. It'll mean more.

Birthdays have always meant a lot to me, as I enjoy celebrating occasions. Plus I love the smell of candles on a cake after it's been blown out.
Though tomorrow for 25th Birthday, it'll be a Mass Effect themed, and fairly quiet.

I can't believe I'm already 25. A quarter of a century. A quarter!

My next milestone is 25 I guess. I've just turned 21 in December, that was a weird one for me, because I don't look a day over 17, I haven't done since I was 17. I think... I might be immortal. O-o
Naw, all joking aside, my parents looks really young for their age so I'm hopeful I'll stay youthful looking.

OMG!!! From some of the comments in this thread I was feeling sooo young - and I'm 46!!! Still feel late teens/early twenties, though. I nearly died when I was 17, I've just been grateful for every birthday since. My milestone and achievement was raising a daughter to 18 - she's the best thing I ever achieved.

O.O I'm turning 25 this year, y'all are a smidge younger than I realized! ('Cept you WhiteWitch, I knew you're a mum)

I've had minor disasters most birthdays since I was 14 or so, but I enjoy them very much anyway. It still feels like the entire month of March is for my birthday. ^__^

I turned 18 last year, and I still don't feel like an adult. Then again, it's hard to feel like an adult when you spend most evenings eating Lucky Charms and watching Disney movies....

I think milestones are probably every 10 years. I turned 22 in October and it feels weird, I feel like I'm not that old.

I sorta feels like 17 to 22 have been just one big year, but my birthday is on Halloween so I always get presents and candy :^)

I turned 40 last August. This has proven to be more of a milestone than I expected, because it marked the start of me having trouble with headaches every month.

Normally, I just count by tens for my milestones, and I'm glad for every year, because I was a messed up kid and nearly made sure I wouldn't see anymore years after my early twenties. Though another reason birthdays are special is because I have an honorary older brother (we adopted each other unofficially) who always makes sure each birthday is remembered. Which is awesome and terrible. Terrible because I usually forget his!

Tam, I also get headaches and migraines. I got my first at 10. My sympathies, they're an annoying and terrible affliction to have.

On happier news, it shall be my birthday in 25 days! And I shall be 25! I get to do what I want for it this year, which is to just have lunch with a bunch of my old friends, walk around, have icecream, and then head back to a friend's place for booze and videogames and socializing.

I'm also going to get to spend some time before my birthday with two of my favourite people (they live in different states, so this is a treat). On the 20th, I'll be buzz cutting my hair. And one of my best friends has promised me explosions and cheesecake.

Being an adult means I get to decide what that means. And that's probably the coolest privlage.
