Ugh, hot glue... We don't get along too well...
School taught me that it was always a good idea to have a bowl of cold water nearby when working with it, just in case.

That being said, depending of what you're using for the base of your lantern, white glue or glue stick could work as well. They just take a bit longer to dry, but at least they don't try to burn you.
*pats sympathetic glue*

I saw some sky lantern the other day, and I kinda want to make one now...

Im working on mine tomorrow! I need to finish it tomorrow too... Because then I go back the vacation house, and it wont be as easy. But I have an idea in mind sooo I hope all goes well =]

im actually really excited to see peoples lanterns and i want them to be better than mine cuz i love other people's art XD so exciting. i might try to take it on the trip, but may just grab some matches and take more pics tomorrow morning first thing
