| It is the age of kings and wizards. The civilized races, humans, elves, orcs and dwarves, have been matching wits and otherwise with each other, monsters and nature herself. One of the most destructive creatures to trouble the civilized races has been dragons. Wicked hard to kill, armed with immense size, cunning and fire breath, they have brought instant glory to whomever have been able to bring one down. It has been a generation of man since a dragon was brought down by the former king.
An aspiring wizard along with his assistants has been working on a formula to handicap the great beasts. After many fruitless attempts, it feels like they are no closer to a solution to their problem than when they first started. Recently they've been experimenting with carefully acquired dragons' blood, in hope that it will give them better results.

| Name: Prusar The Great
Gender: Male
Age: Too old to remember...
Race: Human
Occupation: Master Wizard
Description: Prusar looks pretty much like your typical wizard. He is a tall man, but his spine has bowed with age. He is almost bald, though he often wears a pointy red felt hat that cover most of his head. He has a long white beard that goes down almost to his waist. He has small blue eyes under a pair of thick white eyebrows. He normally wears a simple red mage robe, tied at the waist by a leather belt, with a pair of leather sandals. During travels, he will tie many small pouches of magical ingredients to his belt and will carry a long staff as walking stick.
Prusar isn't the most sympathetic guy. He tends to believe he is the best wizard in the country, and self-proclaimed himself "the great". He appreciates when other people treat him with the respect he deserves, and can easily be angered by ignorant and rude people. However, if you know how to talk to him, he can be a great teacher. After all, through all the years he has lived, Prusar has gathered massive knowledge about pretty much everything, and enjoys passing it down to other people (or maybe he just loves to look more intelligent than other?).
A long time ago, Prusar decided to retire away from the normal world to pursue his studies in a calm place. Truth is, he was kicked out of his old residence by the authorities because of the "strange events" happening around him, which were troubling the public peace. Or so the authorities said. He built a small stone tower in the country, that stands out in the middle of a large sunflower field, and he sworn to himself to find a way to make people realize how great he is. Living alone for such a long time, he has developed some strange habits. Though he has agreed to take some apprentices under his wings in the recent years and no longer live "alone", he has kept most of his old habits. Not cutting his beard for once, though that's not so unusual for a wizard, but also weirder things. For example, he often carries a small, round black rock, and talks to it like if it was an animal. He always carries it with him whenever he goes outside his tower. He calls it "Titerono".
Prusar banged his fist on the large table in front of him. He had never been so closed to finding a potent way to reduce dragons' abilities, yet nothing worked! The old man muttered something in his beard, before turning to his apprentice. "Don't just stand there," he said bluntly. "Go get me a few more drops of the dragon blood! And be careful with it!" Prusar wasn't a lovable man before, and the frustration of not getting the results he wanted wasn't making things better. Turning back to his table, he started reviewing his notes, trying to find what could have gone wrong this time.

| Name: Faolan
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Transformed Half-Elf
Occupation: Wizards' assistant
Description: Despite her elf blood and the fact that she works for a wizard, Faolan has very little aptitude for magic. The half-elf generally acts as the wizard's fetch and carry person. She is good with details and puzzles, though some of her other skills have suffered. She can still pick locks, but sneaking around has become a bit difficult with her change in size. She still likes a good joke, and smiles easily but knows when it is time to be serious.
After an unfortunate accident involving dragons blood Faolan had found herself transformed. She no longer resembles the short, pubescent looking half elf, she used to be. Instead she looks like a small, fur covered dragon. Learning to get around in her new and hopefully temporary shape has been an informative, but frustrating experience. Just under nine feet long from nose to tail tip, and around three feet tall at the shoulder, she been having a hard time getting around cluttered areas. Her wingspan is a little over eight feet in length. Even folded tightly, they have nasty habit of bumping into things.
Unlike dragons, Faolan only possesses scales on her under side. The rest of her body is covered in soft shaggy fur. Both are white on color, though the scales have a silvery tint when seen in certain lighting. She possesses a silver colored, thick, almost spiky mane that runs down her spine from her forehead to the tip of her tail. The mane reacts to different emotions but otherwise sits in a slightly angled position.
She's unsure if it's a trait shared by dragons, but Faolan seems to no longer has ears. Instead she feels vibrations in the air with her horns. The vibrations are translated into sounds giving her a slight disadvantage in some conversations. The change in her hearing, as well as the shape of her face, have given the half elf a very light speech impediment.
(A rough idea of my version of an ice drake looks like. Faolan )
~~~
Faolan nearly jumped when the elder wizard barked his order at her. She knew he was frustrated, but it wasn't a nice thing to get yelled at, no matter the situation. "Yes, Master Prusar!" She spun on the balls of her feet and hurried out of the laboratory. Why her parents had thought it would be a good idea to apprentice with the eccentric old human was beyond her. She was horrible at magic. She knew it, and so did her parents. She wondered, not for the last time if they thought working for him would 'awaken' some 'sleeping power within her'. It was a fools errand, she believed.
The half elf entered the supply room. Carefully, she rummaged through the supply cabinet until she found the bottle that contained the ingredient her tutor wanted. Faolan measured out the blood as carefully as she could but still managed to end up with a drop or two on the floor. She quickly kicked some dust over the stains, promising herself she'd be back later to properly clean the accident. She put the bottle of dragons blood away. Swiftly, but carefully, she returned with the requested ingredient. She crept in quietly, not wanting to interrupt if the wizard was in the middle of something. "Erm, Master, I've got the dragon's blood you requested." She held out the small vial.
| "Good, good," Prusar muttered, still looking at his notes. He turned at the girl and grabbed the bottle gently, not wanting to drop it by accident. He then spun on himself and headed for a nearby table where a complex alembic-like device was placed. He grabbed a small recipient at the bottom of the kit and placed the bottle of dragon's blood inside, making sure it fitted nicely. He then replaced the container where it was supposed to be.
The wizard took a step back to get a complete view of his experimentation. "So, the blood is there," he said, pointing at the left bottom end of the device. "It will mix with the distilled ice gem liquor over there," he said while following the track the liquid with his finger, "and then the Clubtree root juice, and then the citric acid to make sure the pH is right. Yes, that should work," he finally said. Getting closer to the device, he turned a few keys and opened some valves. Immediately, a little flame appeared at the bottom of the recipient containing the dragon blood. Some vapors of strange colors started escaping the device, with a whistling sound. The mage walked away from the table and returned to watching his notes. It would take some time for the reaction to be over anyway, and he didn't feel like watching the colored liquid moving trough the various section of the still for a half-hour. He had more important things to do, after all.
"Faolan, watch the reaction, and when the liquid arrives there, tell me when it turns purple," the wizard asked his assistant while pointing a small vial in the middle of the still. "And make sure it doesn't turn blue! That would be extremely dangerous!" he added as a warning. Dragon blood was an unstable substance, and mixed with the other ingredients he was using, who knows what could happen if things went wrong? Prusar shook his head to chase his bad thoughts and returned to his notes.
| Faolan listened as the wizard muttered to himself. She wasn't sure what the results would be, but hopefully it would result in something more than another ruined vial and a mess that needed to be cleaned. She nodded at the warning with her customar reply of, "yes, Master Prusar." She watched him return to his notes, swallowing a sigh. She didn't want to stand around watching the experiment either.
The half elf gatherd some blank sheets of parchment and started jotting down her observations. She paused after a couple lines. With a sigh, she figured she ought to make her writing a bit bigger. The wizard was brilliant and all, but he didn't like the fact that her writing was so small. She adjusted her hold on her writing tool and continued her notes. They could be copied over to a different sheet when the experiment was over.
Nothing really happened for the first ten minutes. Faolan stifled a yawn of boredom. The liquid in the middle vial was swirling with color, as if it wasn't sure what it wanted to be. Nothing remotely purple or blue lingered for very long. After several minutes of the assistant watching and scribbling down notes, the formula began to settle into a dark violet color. The half elf turned to the old human. "Master Prusar, it's starting to turn purple." She jotted down the observation and looked back at the intruments. The color was evening out nicely. Though it seemed to be getting lighter. Her writing halted as she watched for a couple of heartbeats. To her dismay the liquid in the vial was fading from purple to blue. That was all she needed, to be yelled at for letting the experiment go too far. She wasn't sure if the ancient human had moved from his seat yet, her concentration focused on the experiment.
"Master?" She said with a small hint of urgency in her voice. "It appears to be turning blue." Faolan put down her note taking devices, and moved to halt the experiment. The wizened old man had shown her how to do so a number of times. Though he specifically said to keep the liquids from turning blue, he didn't like it when she touched his things. He especially didn't like it when she touched things involved in an experiment. She was going to get chewed out not matter what she did. But she'd worry about that later.
| Prusar had not moved at his assistant first comment about the liquid turning purple. Yes, everything is working nicely, he thought, scribbling some notes at the bottom of a page. He was pursuing his reading peacefully, until he heard the girl called him one more time. What now? he thought, slightly annoyed. Though, as soon as she said the liquid was turning blue, his annoyance changed into something close to panic.
"Move away!" he said with a large movement of the arm to push the girl. Moving closer to the device, he started to close the opened valves. Apparently, the girl had moved some things already, but he would deal with that later. The wizard closed everything and made a few step away from the device, wondering what it would do.
The liquid was starting to boil, apparently, and it was letting some strange vapours out. Soon, the bottle started to shake, like if some violent reaction was taking place. "Quick, hide somewhere," the man said, diving under the closest table and behind a chair. He didn't know what was going to happen to the liquid, but it looked like it was going to explode. And the best thing to do in that situation was to hide and hope the liquid wasn't poisonous. He hoped his assistant had the time to do the same as a large "PLOCK!" sound resonated in the room.
| Completely involved with trying to stop the experiment, Faolan felt herself get shoved out of the way. She stepped back a couple paces, regaining her balance. She watched at the old human finished closing the experiment down. But their troubles hadn't halted when the equipment did. The half-elf didn't need to be told twice to hide. Explosions were not a lot of fun. Exploding potions were worse.
The wizard had ducked under the closest table. There wasn't enough room for the both of them, leaving her with the one across the room or to hide behind the bookshelf as best she could. She knew from previous experience that she didn't fit very well behind it, but it was better than running across a room with a violently reacting potion nearby.
Faolan ducked behind the shelf as far as she could manage. She had barely gotten herself settled when she heard the vial break, well explode, or whatever that wierd sound was. She had her eyes squeezed too tight to see if she had just imagined something hit in her barely exposed arm, and maybe her calf. That's what had happened last time something like this happened. Nothing had happened, magically, but she did need to tend her arm for cuts made by broken glass. Oh yes, there would be a mess, and she would probably need to clean it.
The half elf felt dizzy, and maybe just a little sick. But she shook her head, trying to banish the feeling. There was work to be done. When she felt like everything had settled down, she peeked out from her hiding place. The lab was a wreck. Blue tinted liquid was everywere. She slowly made her way across the room to where the wizard had hidden. She was trying to avoid touching the results of the experiment, unaware that she had already been exposed to it. "M-Master Prusar?" She felt unbearably hot. "Are you alright?" She bent down to help the aged human to his feet. Focused on her mentor as she was, she didn't notice the blue smear that ran down the outside of her arm. Or that it was slowly being absorbed into her skin.
| Prusar slowly got up, accepting the help of his assistant to get back on his feet. He was getting too old for that kind of thing, or so he thought while dusting himself up. Fortunately, the blue goo had not touch him. Though, his study room was a complete mess now, and that annoyed him a bit. He was about to ask the girl to clean things up, but he stopped when he looked at her. He had not noticed the blue liquid on her arm, but she looked like she wasn't feeling well. "Hm, yes, I'm fine. And you?" he asked, wondering what was happening to the girl. Surely, the little stress of the situation couldn't be the only thing making her look that way.
| Once the wizard was on his feet, Faolan leaned up against a clean spot on the table. She put a hand to her forehead, trying to concentrate on something besides on how awful she felt. Her breathing felt labored, like there wasn't enough room in her chest for air. She was glad the wizard was alright. And she was secretly pleased that he had not immediately told her to clean the lab. At his prompting, she struggled to string a couple sentences together. "I-I really don't feel very well. M-may I go lie down for a bit?"
The room lurched around her, making her fight to keep her previous meal down where it belonged. She put both hands on the table, trying not to fall over. "I promise I'll clean the room after." Her clothing was beginning to feel constricting. Her skin itched, her bones ached, she was dizzy to the point of vertigo, and her insides felt like they were turning into one great big knot.
| "Hm, yes," the wizard said, a bit concerned by the look of the girl. True, she was an apprentice, and it was part of her learning process to do all the chores in the house, but the old man didn't want her to become sick or anything like that. After all, if she didn't feel well, he would be the one forced to do all the chores. Prusar shook those thoughts away. "Can you get to your room by yourself?," he asked, realizing that she was leaning against a table and apparently getting worse.
| The half elf sighed in relief. She didn't need to clean the room just yet. Which was nice. Feeling the way she did, she wasn't sure she'd do a very good job of it. She thought about her instructors' question, quietly. "I don't know. I think I can make it," she stuttered. She staggered over to the door, in a drunken fashion. "Th-thank you." She leaned up against the door frame, to catch her breath.
Faolan walked out into the hall, using the wall for support. She needed to stop periodically to get her bearings. Silent tears rolled down her face, she felt so miserable. But she didn't know why. She sank to her knees just inside her bedroom. Her feet hurt, and didn't want to support her weight any longer. The effort to make it all the way to her bed seemed impossible. She curled up on the cold stone floor, instead. The cool stones felt good against her itching skin. The last thing she remembered was a horrible ripping sound, and the feeling like her body was exploding. And then darkness encompassed her.
(Yeah, so I updated her bio, now that she's changed. And I included an illustration. Woo!)
| Prusar looked as the girl walked away, following her to the door frame and watching her for a few seconds, until he was sure she wouldn't fall death into the hall. He then turned around and looked at his study room. Most of the flat surfaces were covered by a thick blue liquid. The wizard sighed before mumbling some words in his beard and making some signs with his hands. Soon, two brooms placed in a corner started to move, as well as a few towels. The animated objects moved to the spot that needed to be clean and, after about fifteen minutes, there was no trace left of the explosion. The old man walked closer to his chemical kit to take a look at what was left of it. Not much, he came to the conclusion after looking at the broken pieces of glass. He sighed and headed for a seat near the table where his notes were left, hoping that they had not been ruined by the liquid. Sitting down, he pleasantly realized that, when he rushed to stop the reaction, he had closed the cover of the protective binder he kept his notes into. A happy grin on his face, the old man opened the binder and started looking at his notes, once again trying to find what had went wrong.
It must have been a few hours since the incident happened. Prusar lifted his head from the paper, realizing that the sun was setting, taking the little light left in the room with him. The old man got up and stretched. He took a last look at the room to make sure everything was in order before he exited it. He was about the head for the kitchen, when he remembered that Faolan hadn't showed up of the afternoon. With a small sigh, the man resolved to go see if she was alright. He knocked on the door and waited for an answer, not wanting to wake her up if she was just sleeping, but also a bit worried.
| Disturbed by the knock on the door, Faolan stirred. She felt wierd, and her back felt... wrong. She rubbed her head trying to remember how she ended up on the floor. "Ugh." Then she stopped. She seemed to have far more hair than she remembered. And her ears were in the wrong spot. She attempted to sit up, but her body refused to accomodate the position. The half elf pushed herself to her knees instead and froze. Those weren't her hands.
"No. Nononono...." She looked down at herself, becoming more and more frightened, the more she saw. She cried out when she saw her reflection. In her surprise she extended her wings and knocked several things to the ground with a loud clatter. Overwhelmed she sank back down to the floor and coverd her head. She didn't know what happened, or how she did it. But she was certain the old human would would have a conniption. And it would somehow end up being her fault. She began to cry, completely forgetting that there had been a knock at the door.
| Even if the door was pretty thick, some of the sounds came through. Worried, Prusar opened the door and motioned to enter the room, quickly stopping in his track when he saw a strange animal - and no trace of his assistant. That's bad, he thought, lifting his hand to cast a spell on the creature. No matter what it was, it wasn't in the right place... Though, for some reasons, he refrained from immediately throwing some lighting bolts at the thing, observing what it was doing. Crying, apparently... The wizard let some sparks appear around his fingers, showing that he was ready to defend himself if needed, and tried to talk to the creature. "What... are you?" he managed to say. "And where's Faolan?" he added, since it was the question that was worrying him the most right now.
| The door was opening. Oh no. Faolan looked up to see her Master at the door. Not only that, but his hands were alight with energy. She shrunk away from the aged human as best she could. Her wings stood out awkwardly and knocked other items to the ground. "Oi'm Faolan," The girl answered, understandably frightened. "Mmm.. Oi don't know what happened! Oi just woke up and Oi looked loike this! Please don't hit me with your spells!"
It might not have been the most believable thing to say. Even if it was true, it probably didn't sound like the right thing to say either. Here was some creature, in a messed up room, claming that they were a wizard's assistant. Not only that, but the clothing she was wearing before she passed out lie on the floor in tatters. Either way she didn't want to be on the recieving end of any spells that he had prepared.
