Mt. Nerian has always been an important archaeological site near the prosperous city of Hederia. It is said that, many centuries ago, a powerful civilization lived in that location. Hoping to learn more about those people and the source of their power, the authorities of Hederia sent scientists to the site. For many years, the most important discoveries were potteries and plates, most of them broken by the passage of time.

Although, the rumors now spread. The scientists are said to have made an important discovery, though no one really knows what it is. Many people are however interested in learning more, for different reasons. Small groups are now converging to the archaeological base, trying to gain information. Will you be part of them?

((Sucky introduction is sucky because I'm getting braindead. I'll make something better later...))

The Land of Hederia:

Hederia is a large coastal city located on the shore of the Eastern River. It has been an important merchant city for decades and has a diversified economy. It is ruled by a council of elected members, most of them being wealthy people (aristocrats or merchants). The technologies in Hederia are similar to the 19th century on Earth, most of the power coming from steam engines. Although mechanical robots have been created, they cost a lot and thus are almost only available to the wealthier class. Most of the normal people still rely on man or beast power to accomplish their work.

The town itself is divided in 3 parts. The northern part is reserved for the riches. It is mostly composed of large estates and mansions, wide clean streets with various benches and floral decorations around and a few parks. It is surrounded by a large wall, guarded by policemen, and entrance is forbidden to most people. A small zone between the north and the rest of the town houses the offices of the government and various other important buildings, like the police headquarter and the main colleges.

The center of the town is a residential and commercial area. It is the heart of pretty much everything going on in Hederia. The streets are generally smaller than in the north, or simply more crowded, and the buildings are more common. The population is mostly composed of workers and small merchants. The western part of this zone hosts the port (the one for ships and the one for flying vessels), as well as everything related to the stocking of merchandises.

The last part of the town, simply referred to as the South, is basically what's left for those who can't afford to live in the town. The streets are small, narrow and dark; the buildings look like they can fall down at any moment. Most people avoid that zone, unless they have no other choice. For that reason, and the fact that the police rarely care about what happens there, it has been used by the rebels as a meeting ground for a while.

Around Hederia, the land is mostly covered by farms and small factories. Mountains to the south have offered protection to the region for a long time, although it has now become the home of the rebels chased from the town by the authorities. A small archaeological camp can also be found at the bottom of Mt. Nerian, the largest mountain of the region.

The Factions:

The Policemen: Charged of keeping the order in the town, the policemen take there orders directly for the leaders' council. Although most of them simply take care of fighting the usual crimes and enforcing the laws, small special cells have been created to follow the actions of the rebels and any other group seeking to cause troubles, or to ensure the security of important zones. Those cells work like independent military groups and benefit from the latest technologies to help them in their fight. The men and women recruited to be part of them have to follow a rigorous training before being allowed to participate in mission, and thus are often in excellent shape and have good fighting abilities. However, it has been reported that "normal-looking" citizens have also been recruited, probably in an effort to infiltrate the other groups with more ease.

For now, the only active cell is a small security group charged to keep an eye on the archaeological expeditions at Mt. Nerian. The members can easily be identified by their military uniform and the weapons they were, however they have not done any action as of now.

    Members:
Victoria Callahan - Informant for the rebels
    Keaton Cray

The Rebels: The electoral system in place in Hederia, as well as the behaviour of some elected representatives, has been causing many discussions in the last few years. Although supposedly democratic, the system is renown to be manipulated by the aristocrats seeking to keep the power they had for centuries or to gain more wealth from their position of power. Even if the population lives with it without too much complaining, some groups have formed to opposed the corrupted government. After many altercations with the policemen, they have been forced to flee to the nearby Mt. Nerian or farther away in the country, by fear of being imprison or kill.

The base of Mt. Nerian is a bit small, only being used has a way to keep an eye on Hederia and the surrounding area. However, the recent archaeological discoveries have caught the attention of the group, who is now trying to gather as much information as possible.

    Members:
    Rhys Cooper
Gemini Starstone - Working as a normal citizen
    Hogan Williams

The Scientists: The scientists are a new group in Hederia. Although some knowledgeable people have always existed, the faction now counts more and more members with the opening of public colleges and universities. They also benefit from the important investments in research and development made by the government. The large number of people in that faction also means that they have various opinions, some being in favor of the government, other being against it, and most preferring to stay neutral.

Many scientists can be found around Mt. Nerian right now. Archaeologists, of course, but also people taking care of all the technological work, communication, health care, analysis, etc. Only a few of them have access to the discovery's zone though.

    Members:
    Thomas Winford Caldwell
Valencia Stormweather (AKA) Val or Stormy
    Pandora Watson

The Normal People: The vast majority of the population of Hederia and the surrounding region is what you could call "normal people". They are simple folks who live their life as best as they can. That faction contains everything from children to elderly people, students, workers, and everything else. It is also a nice group for people to hide in, secretly helping one or another faction in some way.

    Members:
    Aaron Bawn
    Alexis "Al" McCoy
Charles A. Witherspoon II a.k.a Charlie

~ Mt. Nerian archaeological team's offices ; Monday April 12th, 8:30AM ~
Weather: Sunny with a few clouds; temperature around 55°F ; no wind.

Thomas W. Caldwell was sitting behind the large desk that occupied almost half the space of his tiny office. Bookshelves containing visibly too many documents for their size took what was left, with only a little alley left between them to allow people inside. Although, Thomas didn't complain. He was doing what he loved, and spent most of his time outside is office anyway. Passing a hand on his chin, or more likely, on his beard, he shifted through the pages of the newspaper placed in front of him. "Nothing really new," he said out loud as he reached the last page, not having found anything interesting. He folded the large piece of paper in two before placing it on the corner of his desk, exchanging it with a small notebook. Leaning back in his chair, he opened the book to the marked page and started to read his schedule for the day. A few meetings with new members of the team, then the usual reports of the situation, and then he would be free to go do some exploration on his own.

The whirring of gears and the clunking of heavy feet could be heard from the archives as Pandora busied herself putting some recently acquired journals in their appropriate places in the archives. Her robot pushed her wheelchair around the room so she could shelf them and put some of the books on higher shelves in their proper place.

"Thank you, Marcus." She smiled as the robot put another book on a higher shelf. That was the last book that she needed to shelf, so she commanded Marcus back over to push her chair. She was done for now, so she figured that it was time to take a look around the site for a bit.

Hogan leaned out of the cave opening that served as the rebel base on Mt. Nerian, eyes squinting into the bright morning sunlight that shone down. Munching on a ration pack for his breakfast, he turned and went back into the cave. flopping down onto a sturdy wooden chair and kicking his feet up onto a crate, he looked around the base. Boxes of supplies were scattered about, mostly food, and there were a few oil lamps for when it got dark, but Hogan couldn't use them for very long after the sun went down, lest their glow give him away. Off in one corner were he birds, his most prized possessions and the sole way he stayed in contact with his superiors in the resistance. his unique talent with them was what had secured this position for him in the first place, a discreet way to communicate with the others and it was something that the police force had yet to discover.

Standing up and dusting the crumbs off himself, he reached over to the floor near the pallet where he slept and picked up his shoulder harness. Slipping the contraption of leather straps and padding over his head and buckling it behind his back, he reached over and pulled the twin daggers from their hiding place and sheathed them in their holders in the small of his back. Tossing some scraps of meat into his bird cages, he headed out of the cave. Whistling loudly as he made it out onto the brown and rocky landscape, he held out his left arm and waited. Shortly, a large winged shape came plummeting out of the sky, flaring out it's wings at the last minute before settling onto the thick leather glove that Hogan had put on.

"There's my girl," he said to it, holding his forearm closer to his shoulder padding as the falcon hopped onto it, settling down on it's usual perch.

"Now then" he said aloud to no one in particular, "Let's see what our friends have discovered today."

Alexis had been at the factory since six this morning, and could not have been happier to hear the whistle blow for her break. She dumped the the last crate of scrap she was carrying into the pile and made her way back to the break room. Upon entering, a group of men at the table looked up and grinned, collectively welcoming her to sit. She smiled meekly, and pulled up a chair when there was enough room made.

"Decided to take yer breaks a bit early again, huh fellas?" The men at the table chuckled and shrugged.

"Eh, whaddaya gonna do? But hey, yous ready fer yer match tonight Al?"

Al hiked an eyebrow and pushed back her newsboy hat, scratching at her head. "I gotta 'nother one? Didn' think that was until later...guess I'm ready as I'll ever be. Who 'm I fightin'?" After an akward silence, a smaller man at the table with a ruddy face and a nasal voice spoke up.

"...Erm...Charlie."

Al glanced up and to the right, as if looking to her cap for an answer. When none came, she looked back to the faces of the men seated at the table. "Who?" A bigger man seated at another table spoke up from behind his newspaper he was reading.

"Charlie. Charlie Witherspoon."

Al mouthed the name and was halfway through the last name when the identity of her opponent hit her. "Withersp--The foreman's son?" The group nodded to her in return, and she smiled, revealing her top row teeth. "What, is he a big deal 'round here or somn'?" At that moment, the group at the table began giving her responses one after another in rapid succession.

"Heard he's tough. Real tough."
"An' mean 's they come."
"Ugly!"
"No qualms 'bout hittin' ladies that don' already fight neither!"
"Heard he's gotta soft spot for you though."

All the men at the table turned and looked incredulously at the big man who'd answered them before, who was now rolling up his paper and showing into his pocket before pouring himself a cup of coffee. They all looked back at her, waiting for her input on the matter. "What're you guys lookin' at me fer, I don' even know th' guy."

The big man gulped his coffee down and walked to the door stopping to pat Al on the shoulder on his way out, winking at her. "I wouldn't worry 'bout it too much. You'll be all right."

"Uhm. Thank you sir." The whistle soon blew, ending break time, and Al was the first to get up from the table and walk back out to the scrapyard, while the others stayed at the table chatting amongst themselves for awhile longer. On her way back, she passed through the actual factory, and happened to glance up into the catwalks to see the foreman standing with whom presumably was his son. He was a tall man about 6'2", heavily muscled wearing a grey newsboy cap like hers, except it fit better, a wifebeater, work jeans with suspenders and boots. He seemed to be half listening to his father who was berating him about something or other when they caught each other's eye for a fleeting moment, only to have him quickly pull his hat over his eyes. Al squinted at him for a minute before shrugging to herself, and kept walking out to the yard to get back to work.

Victoria shivered slightly and fastened the top button on her uniform jacket; it wasn’t a windy day on the mountain or anything, actually the weather had been strikingly calm for some time now, but she was still a bit chilly. Sighing she continues her trek, observing the excavation sight a ways off to her left with little interest. Nothing was really happening today; hadn’t been for a few days now. There was certainly no need for Police action here that she could see, which made it all the more unnerving that they were here. Musing over the implications of this, Victoria finishes her walk around the perimeter of the sight and sits down with a huff on a small slab of nearby rock. She takes off her sidearm, a remarkably well-crafted Le Mat revolver, and studies the barrel for a moment before aiming at something off in the distance and mock-firing the gun.

“Bang, bang.” she mutters under her breath.

Sighing again, she holsters the gun and looks around with a bored expression on her face. At this point, she really just couldn’t wait for her shift to be over. Of course, there was that matter of reporting back to the other rebels later tonight, without a doubt her report would contain nothing of great interest, it never did.

Thomas got up as he heard someone entering the office right beside him, the one occupied by his secretary. Although he kept his own schedule, the young woman was the one in charge of everything. "Good morning, Ms. Norton," he said as he passed the door, a warm smile on his face as he saw the small redhead woman sitting behind her desk, already working.

The woman returned him his smile. "Good morning, Mr. Caldwell." She then looked at a small pile of sheets place on her desk, beside freshly opened envelops. She pulled a small pad from under it, the first sheet being covered with notes. "There are no newcomers to meet today," she said, looking at her notes. "Although, you'll have to get ready for the departure of the students this Friday. Then you have to meet with the searchers at eleven to hear their report on the progress of the operations. And then..." she passed her hands to the paper, apparently not believing that there wasn't anything else. With a little sigh, she looked up at her employer, replacing her glasses on her nose.

"Nothing else? Well, that's a nice change," he answered playfully. The last days had been quite busy. Sure, he'll have to think about what to say to the students, but that wouldn't take too long. With a little luck and effort, he could probably have finish before heading for his meeting. Passing a hand through his beard, he took another look at the secretary. "Thank you, Ms. Norton. I'll be in my office if someone needs me." He turned, ready to close the door, but stopped in his track and looked back at the woman.

"Oh, yes, don't forget to send those informative fliers in town. We'll need some more workers once the students leave." He waited for her to nod and returned to his office, closing the door and sitting down at his desk, pondering on what he could tell the graduating students. Each year, many collegians came to help with the research, learning the various skills they would need in their future career. Although, their term was ending at the end of the month, and most of them left sooner to take various exams and tests. Thus, the team needed other people to take their place, at least until the next semester started and other students came again. With the recent rumors circulating in town about the discovery made in the ruins, it didn't look too hard to recruit people. But they'll need to be screened and tested to make sure they are alright... the old man thought, grabbing his preferred pen and starting to write.

Keaton ran as fast as he could out of the town. Behind him he was being chased by the Police. They were 'chasing him out of town.' It was only a ruse though to make him seem like he was a Rebel. Not to long ago he was taken into the ranks of the police to become a sort of nark, to get inside the rebel faction.

Dirt covered his clothing, and all he had was a black T-shirt and a tattered brown jacket along with ripped black jeans and a pair of brown boots. Before the police ran him out they dressed him up and gave him a dirty look. they also gave him a backpack with some water, food, a couple changes of clothing and an emergency way to get in contact. He was told not to use it unless he absolutely needed to.

After about a half and hour he had finally lost them. It was still morning but he was beat and had to find a cave or someplace to rest before he could continue on his mission. He trekked through the woods for a while until he found a mountain side in view. He picked up his pace, hoping he could find a cave.

Bingo. He found an opening that he was lucky to stumble upon. He couldn't have found it under any other circumstances if he tried. He stalked quietly up to the cave enterance and peered in. He wasn't sure wether it was occupied by another human or bear of some sort.

"Hello?" He called into the cave enterance and waited to see if there would be an answer.

Marcus the robot pushed Pandora's chair through the campgrounds of the archaeological site. She got many hellos and how are you's, and she responded to them in the appropriate manners. She was pretty respected among the scientists at the site for her inventions and her work re-organizing the cluttered archives. As she made her rounds, she headed towards the cafeteria to see what was there for breakfast. She would take it back to the archives, and then return to work once she finished eating.

She looked around at all of the familiar faces. After being there for three months, she got to know most of the others around the site very well, even some of the police force members that were stationed at the mountain. She didn't mind them being there, as long as they didn't get in the way of her work. And speaking of police... she glanced over at the short woman that she was nearing. She gave the officer a nod of recognition. "Good morning, Miss Callahan." She gave a small smile.

Victoria had been staring into space for some time when Pandora had spoken to her. Now she shakes her head and looks around to the other woman, looking a bit like she has just been roused from a trance.

"Oh, good morning, Ms. Watson."

She gives a small smile, and then glances around the site once more.

"Anything interesting happening today?"

She detects a hint of derision in her own voice that she hadn't intended, and clears her throat sheepishly. She doesn't want to seem rude, but also she doesn't need anyone questioning her apparent lack of interest in her duties.

"I mean...anything different than usual, that is?" Sweat

About half-an-hour had passed, maybe a bit more, when Thomas looked back up. Adjusting his glasses on his nose, he reached a hand into his pocket to grab his watch, taking a quick look at the time before placing it back where it belonged. "Well, it went even faster than I thought," he said out loud, a smile playing on his lips as he checked the sheet in front of him, all covered by small writings. It wasn't perfect, but it was already a good draft. And he would have plenty of time to review it later.

Grabbing his cane, the old man exited his office, nodding as he passed in front of his secretary and then heading down the hall towards the cafeteria. He had already taken his breakfast, but a good cup of tea sounded just perfect at this hour. Whistling playfully, he entered the crowded room, answering the greetings of the many workers gathered in the room at that hour and making his way to the kitchen, stopping a few time to exchange news with some people he hadn't seen recently. Thomas being a somewhat predictable man, one of the cafeteria worker had already prepared him a cup of his favourite tea when he finally reached the counter. He thanked the woman before turning around and heading for a side door. As he did, he noticed two women talking: a police officer, and the person in charge of the archives. He nodded as he reached their side, adding a friendly "Good morning, Ms. Watson and Ms. Callahan!" and pursuing his way, not wanting to disturb the conversation they were having.
