| Yes, I am a larper. I like dressing up in costumes and playing pretend. I refuse to grow up, and am not ashamed of it.
But it's not always about playing around like a kid. It is a game with rules, coordination and conditions. People can get hurt (IRL) and characters can die. There is also some improvised acting involved, where you are not only asked to play, but speak and behave as if your character would - This is known as 'freeform'. Sometimes your character is given motives, but usually you have to make up things as you go.
I heard someone here was interested in seeing how things went at a LARP I went to on the weekend. Well, here are some photos and here you'll find some videos. I'm not in any of those photos or videos, although here's one someone else took of me being a goblin - the cloak were not part of the costume, but I had to wear them because it was freezing cold that day - I had several shirts on under it.

| I've actually been interested in LARPing for quite a while, after watching the movie Role Models. I gotta say, that was actually a really good movie. I love tabletop roleplaying, but I have never actually dressed up and acted any of it out.

| My brother and all of his friends are LARPers. I played with them when they did tabletop, but I just couldn't get into the live-action stuff. The one time I tried, I was bored stiff. I guess I'm just not much of an actor. But he loves it. It's practically the only thing he does.

| Myself, I've never partaken in a LARP, but I have a few friends who do it quite often. I'd like to watch a LARP someday. I think it would be quite entertaining.

| Cool!
LARP isn't just something you watch. You really have to participate to be in it. Though a lot of people are weary (or just don't like the idea) of foam weapons, you are usually allowed to be a non-combatant. Some LARPs have no fighting at all.

| I don't want to take part in a LARP before I watch at least one. :P That's what I usually do. First I have to watch for a while, then I consider and then decide.
A friend of mine told me once that usually, when there's a battle, there is some non-combatant way of deciding who won. Usually playing paper-rock-scissors. So you actually just walk around with your weapon but don't really use it.

| I've never done LARPing before, but it looked so interesting. Though I wouldn't want to LARP as an OC or anything. I'd LARP as a character that I favor, like Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

| I guess you can do that too, in some LARPs. For example, there are people who LARP James Cameron's Avatar and they take roles of Neytiri, Jake, Tsu'tey and other actual characters.

| Oh really? Sounds fun. ^ ^ I thought LARPing was strictly for original characters only.

| I said earlier that this really seems fun to me. Up until now, I've never met any people into it or seen anything posted up about it in my area, but recently I've been seeing these signs around my school proclaiming "LARP is back!" and urging everyone to look up such and such local group. I'm thinking I might look it up.

| As much as I love tabletop, I dunno if I could ever get into LARPing. I am lazy. I'd try it at least once though if given the chance, because every time I see people doing it they look like they're having a blast. As far as places to do it, any forest type area or clearing will do (I'm at college in Huntsville, TX, and we've got LOTS of that...)
They're also this.
People LARP'd there for awhile, but I haven't seen it lately. Probably has to do with the fact that they sell actual weapons there...>_>

| I have always thought that getting into a LARP could be fun. I'm an avid roleplayer and would love an opportunity to just explore all forms of role playing. That being said, I have way to many things going on to let myself do so. As nice as it would be, I just find that I don't have the time.
Still, it's nice to see that the LARPing run is still going strong and I hope that you have a lot of fun with it. It's nice to see that people are enjoying themselves, and are not ashamed of who they are.
I absolutely love Renaissance Festivals. Here is ours. So much fun. and Dead Bob is awesome.
