In the battle system, when I finish a battle, I get experience, silver, and 0 spirit points. What are spirit points? Confused

They are a special currency* that may or may not be used in the future.

*Spirit points are not like regular silver and copper, as they are used mainly to upgrade skills/learn skills/change character related traits etc.
