In all honesty Twilight irritates the balls outta me.

I read the book, and it was pretty good, I read it in like 2 and half days flat.
And by that I mean like 7 hours per day, so that's only like 17.5 hours to read like 400-500 pages.
That's really quick reading for me.
I hated the movie though.
The movie wasn't anything like the book in my opinion.
And it wasn't very exciting most of the time.
Everyone who is 'Twilight obsessed' and hasn't even read the first book is a total and complete n00b poser.
It was a shitty piece of shit movie anyway. D:<The>.>
That and neither of them are even that handsome. The girl was, in my personal opinion, as always, very ugly.
And Edward isn't even in the slightest bit hot.
At all.

But that's just me bashing this shit because it's SO DAMN OVERLY DISCUSSED.
And because the movie really was horrific and waste of time and money. But, like I keep, and always will, saying this is just my personal opinion.
I don't hate people who love the movie/book(s) though, as long as it's not their main concern in life. >.>

I read the book, and actually liked it quite a lot. But the second, just killed it. I can't read that stuff anymore. I guess that book is too "young" for me.

Well it's not even that I like "mature" books, I love children's books. Just something about that series seems so juvenile to me, in all the bad ways.

I do however, think the guy who acted as Jasper is reeally hot! XD

Oh, you're not missing much. My stand on the books/movies is that they are basically vampire porn for teenage girls looking for something "dangerous" and not willing to go all the way to reading actual vampire books.
In my opinion, they aren't vampires, they're giant bloodsucking fairies.
I got in to them at first, but after the first book it got waaaay too close to a bad soap opera, the characters became generic and predictable, as did the plot.

I would have read more of this thread but I'm scared of spoilers.

First and foremost TEAM JACOB FTW.

SO I finally started reading these damn books a couple weeks ago. Since the new moon poster was released and everyone was going crazy I just had to freaking know what the big deal was about. I had almost started reading them when the first movie came out, but I read the back of the first book and I just couldn't bring myself to. xD (If you don't know what I'm talking about find the paperback version of the first book and read the back, it's freaking ridiculous.)

So anyways, the first book wasn't good. It actually wasn't as bad as I expected, but it wasn't good. It was an okay read.

So I just finished the second book, also of eh okay quality. However I found the second one to be a much better read. In my opinion the second was a good read.

The movie was worse than anything I could have imagined though. Which is a shame because I thought the casting was amazing and had a lot of potential.(Love love love Alice!) They just focused to much on the fight and not enough on relationships between characters. Everything seemed even weirder and way more awkward than in the book which made it come off 100x more childish.

I'm about to start the third book as I finally found somebody t borrow it from.(It's not good enough for me to consider spending the money on a hardback copy and paperback isn't out yet that I know of xD)

LOL I meant to post in here earlier but then I didn't, and THEN... here it was again.

TWILIGHT... oh, Twilight. What can I say.

I read the first book. I laughed. A lot. What a SAD excuse for a piece of literature. Meyer writes like a happy tween with a nice thesaurus. Her work seriously needs some editing. It's really REALLY sad. I don't know how I even got past all the trite nonsense, the ENDLESS obsessing over Edward's appearance (omg his eyessss u gais), Bella's flat, idiotic, and completely unrealistic character, Edward's non-personality, and the complete and utter lack of plot. I could go to the mall and have the same experience, just a lot less annoying. I could never bring myself to read book two, although I do know it's from Jacob's POV. I know a lot about what happens in the later books too and just.... ew.
I absolutely cannot understand what makes Edward so attractive. To me he is just CREEPY. Not to mention the ton of Mormonism crammed into this book.. XD;

The movie? Oh man, I laughed my ass off the whole time. And yes, I did go see it in the theatres.. I have too much curiosity. I watched it the other day with the commentary... much better! Rob is hilarious. I don't mind the movie because you don't have to listen to Bella all the time, and they actually added plot. Not that there's much of it, but it's littered throughout, rather than just stuck on the end like they forgot about it. :|

Well, I am 22 (almost 23), but I do read a lot of YA literature simply because I like it. This is definitely not one of those instances. Meyer is obviously one of those people who never grew out of the dopey liekomg! years and so her book is completely appropriate for people that age. I just don't understand the widespread mania about it.... are that many people REALLY that ..... sad? :<

Edit: Oh yeah, and I don't mean to be offensive to the people who do like it. I have nothing against (peaceful) twilight fans. I mean, you like what you like and that's perfectly fine! XD

People are prolly going to hunt me down for this statement:

I wouldn't read Twilight even if my life depended on it. I was forced (At gunpoint - I swear to you. My friend is PSYCHO.) to watch it and just from that I don't ever want to even look at the books, never mind touch them.

Simply put - Only really men SPARKLE. (Please read that out loud in the most homosexual voice you can imitate)

Here is an interesting blog entry on Twilight. It has possibly the most amazing parody of the novel that I've ever read. XD Trust me, that's just what it's like to read the book.

this is an epic parody :3

anyway, twilight, it's a tough thing.
I read the first book of the series two years ago I think and I really liked it. And then I read the second of the series and thought it was the worst book I had ever read, truly dreadful. I read the third and thought it was better than the second, but still bad.
After reading the third I joined a Anti-twilight guild and I must say that I prefer the people I have met there to the slightly obsessed twilight-fangirls who worship the ground Robert Pattinson(the guy who plays "Edward"in the movie)walks upon.
Twilight really brings out the worst in girls D:
Looking back at the first book I'm really ashamed I once liked it, because it's so clichee'd and obvious and overall poorly written.
It seems like everyone I talk to really likes the first book, hates the second and thinks the third one is slightly better xD
as for the fourth one, I refuse to read it and a class mate of mine who started to read it said it was dead boring.
Did this end up as a twilight rant? *.*U

I didn't much care for it. Someone on here said before that it satisfied the horny teenage girl in them, and I'd have to say that's about the only good point it has. Twilight is little more than a harlequin romance for younger girls, and in my personal opinion, is a lot like some of the fanfictions you see on the internet. I had to skim through pages upon pages upon pages of Bella remarking on how everything about Edward was so perfect. While detail in a novel will often times help it out, Meyer put in way too much and left out a decent plot in doing so.

Edward himself is not worth the constant praise he gets. I mean, spying on Bella, watching her when she sleeps, deciding her friends for her, and leaving her pulverized after sex? That doesn't make a healthy relationship...though I guess his redemption is that he's just pretty.

The only character I really liked was James, and that's only because he wanted to end the series like I wanted him to. In the end, he of course failed in that, so no cookie for him.

The series has too many flaws for me to take it seriously. As such, when fans tell me how amazing it is, I have to suppress a laugh so as not to insult them. People can read it if they want to, but if they start attacking me for saying it's rubbish they can expect blood to be shed.

Oh for-... Don't even get me started on that book. I have had it up to here with vampires. Anne Rice, Anita Blake, Underworld, Queen of the Damned, Blade, Vampire: The Masquerade, the list goes on and on. I'm about this close to hiking over to the nearest vampire bar and just beating the crap out of people with a crucifix, and god help the cheeky sod who dares to tell me "real vampires aren't affected by the cross!" My fist is clenching just thinking about it. As if that wasn't enough, I used to see a bajillion of those Twilight books with the apple on the cover when I worked at a donation thrift store.

To be fair, I haven't read it: not Twilight and not the Anne Rice books either. Where then do I get off hating them so much? It's because I blame them for years and years of every roleplay forum being flooded with half-vampire/angel/demon/lycan/neko/dragon numbnuts who couldn't spell their way out of a Hooked On Phonics starter-kit and think they're the most awesome thing since a hypothetical hybrid of Chuck Norris and Sephiroth.

I love Twilight, I found the original book amazing and imaginative.
I am often afraid to go looking for topics on it on forums because usually they have more haters than likers online. It's sad to me how this book gets bashed so badly I have never seen such hatred before in my life for a book, movie, TV show anything.

Yes I suppose it's she is not the world's greatest writer but she never meant to be one in the first place, she was simply writing around a dream she had meaning it only for herself and her sister was the one that probed her to get it published.

Point being, she's a beginner, so people really need to give her a break. I can't stand above all how people are so angry about her supposedly breaking the rules of vampires, and in my opinion WHAT DAMN RULES!? VAMPIRES ARE NOT REAL CREATURES SO THERE IS NO ONE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE! How can there be if they do not actually exist?

I was never really into vampires, I was a werewolf girl 100% so when I started hearing things about this book naturally I didn't initially have an interest. But at that time all the things I was hearing were all good things, I was noticing that people really seemed to love this series and when the movie commercials started coming my way I had to know WHY!? Why are people loving this? So that developed an interest in me, the hype. I have never read a single book let alone a series so fast in my life, I was more into these than I have ever been into a series. I was hooked on the first book before I had to the check out counter. I Love Harry Potter but I kept loosing interest in between books and had to come back to it a long while later. I would like to note here this is just an example to help explain my reading habits I am not stating that one or the other is any better. I love them both.

I will admit to the fourth book being my least favorite in fact none of them are nearly as great as the original, I really feel she could have kept it just at the original(although she had not intended on sequels the same as she never intended to be a writer in the first place her editors struck a deal with her and she has three sons you mothers out there would feel her there above all), and the fourth book really did not float my boat above the rest of them. Although I have learned more about his feelings and views, and my tolorance for him is increasing now, at the time I could not stand Jacob and so one of the main things for me is that I could hardly stand most of the last installment being his viewpoint. But I just felt that the whole series in general was straying away from the original and at the final it plunged, in fact I can even say I feel it's a bit ridiculous.

So yeah I have a few problems with it of my own, but I still thought it was enjoyable and I now have an equal liking for vampires and werewolves. The moral of my story is to give things a chance. I did a similar number with pokemon years ago in seventh grade, I used to think it was the stupidest thing on the face of the earth while I barely knew a thing about it. But then a small time later I stumbled upon the show and became obsessed(am not anymore although I still enjoy the games).

So now I try not to judge things before I know them...or a book by its cover as the famous saying states.

EDIT, NOTE: Please forgive me if my viewpoint here sounded harsh, I am afraid I have an unpleasant habit of being over opinionated but I would never intend disrespect to anyone. I don't at all intend to imply that I have a problem with people disliking this series, its hard for me to witness but I certainly am not against it.

To be honest the She's just a beginner statement annoys me, the publisher's shouldn't have published her if she's a beginner. As far as I was aware published authours are accomplished talented authors.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a Twilight hater as such. I appreciate both sides of the argument, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with them.

As for your comment VampirePrayer, about the rules of vampires, I know what you mean, but I also respectively disagree with you to a certain extent. As far as I'm aware the original base for the vampire was written by Bram Stoker in his book Dracula. This was, as far as I know the first explanation of a supernatural vampire. Though it does often mention the vampire as a bat that feeds off of animals which I believe is a real animal. However for a long time, because he technically invented the vampire his word on them are literature-ly speaking, law. There have been many different interpretations of the vampire since then, but most followed Bram Stoker's vampires, but placed them in different instances or explained them to be created in different ways. In the same way that you wouldn't mess with a pheonix's general appearence or habits, save for changing the colour or saying that they are born within volcano's. Many people say that Stephanie Meyer re-wrote vampires, but I think it would be more acurate to say she re-wrote an average teenager. Edward for example is just an average teenager that has unnatural athleticism and drinks blood.

I, for one, don't mind that you are opinionated so long as you can deal with people disagreeing with you Smile and you know you are right that people shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but the people who blindly love Twilight and won't hear a word against it also need to realise that some people have read the book and made their judgement's justifyably. Their judgement is not wrong just because they have decided that Twilight is the best thing on earth.

Um btw this wasn't just a long dig at you VampirePrayer, there were just a few things in your post that, as I said, I respectfully disagree with you about. Smile There was also a bit of a rant about twitards hidden in there, but yeah it wasn't intended to insult you personally, but rather a bit of a complaint against the fandom as a whole.

Then again what fandom doesn't have the crazilly obsessed people that everyone wants to slap, so they don't continue being ridiculous. Lol XD

Wow such a lot of comments.

At least the Twilight books have done what they set out to do, make people read!

I got the first book for Mother's Day last year and knocked it off the same day. I read the next book the next day and so on. So I finished the entire series in one week. I loved the books, not because they were fantasically written, or about vampires. I loved them because once you get past the whole vampire thing, it is a love story. A sweet and at times depressing love story.

I saw the movie (the first one) before I read the book and the movie was not great. The only thing I really loved about the movie was the music and the score. For such a fangirl/boy base the movie could have been so much better.

I did go to the midnight screening of the second movie, just because I love going to the movies and I love people watching, I think it is my idea of sport.

Anyway, my point is that the books are lucrative because I think there are a lot of people who want romance and love stories. I also think there are a lot of people who think they don't fit in, and want old fashioned belonging to someone or something.

Bloody hell, look at how much I have written!

I never read it or watched it but my second older sister watched New Moon to laugh at it.I don't like it I find no sense to it at all(means I don't get it but seriously a vampire and human that fall in love?Makes no sense!why fall in love with something you feed upon?so they feed on animals?so,Humans are animals too.) you can call me a hater I don't mind that(makes sense,I do not like it,it's the same thing as hate)
