I always wanted to learn sign language. I remember learning some things. Then I had my friend teach me some bad things in sign language too. XD We use them when we don't want to publicly say it out loud. |
I took ASL as a class, erm two actually, easiest language I've ever taken. (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese). I really like the language, because it mostly makes inherent sense.

How we say hello, is "Ola", but we usually say "Bom dia" which means "Good day". Saying goodbye is "Adeus", pronounced a-dew-sh. The "ew" is pronounced like "ew, that's gross!" XD Those are the basics I suppose.
@Hiro - German is hard to learn. DX |
Interesting. :ninja: I really like the good bye one. X3 A-dew-sh. XD
What is "How are you?/How do you do?"? : O |
Well, it depends. There are a lot of Portuguese slang out there, especially in Brazil. But the actual way of saying it is, "Como e que tu estas?", which is "how are you." Portuguese can be a bit similar to Spanish in the ways of writing, but different pronunciation. Like for Spanish it's, "Como estas?" XD

| Kira: French was very helpful to me in understanding English grammar oddly. It also helped when I took ASL, because ASL comes from French Sign Language, which comes from French.
Spanish never stuck with me long enough to help me anywhere.

Yeah, I had a couple of German friends that attempted to teach me German, but I failed miserably. But then again, they were strict with pronunciations that they told me I failed. X[
Therefore, I turn to Rammstein and just repeat the lyrics as I can. XD Not that great of a choice for learning German, I know. |
Yay for that band. . .
but really. . . just yell. . . sound mad. . . and have lots of flem >_>

the only thing that I ever learned that helped me at all was "No hablo espanol mucho. Silencene' por favor."
Which I think (Or my teacher said) means, I don't speak a lot od spanish, please slow down."
But I think she is wrong because I thought Silencence' was "sit down".

| My family is hispanic, but I actually don't really identify myself with the ethnicity since I grew up in the US. I know lots of people who are hardcore about it, but I just can't make myself care. I'd rather be labelled by my ability and intelligence than by what country my family happens to come from.
I speak Spanish and some limited Japanese (lack of practice has rendered 2 years of classes nearly useless).

For some reason I thought you wrote "Silencio", which means silence. I never heard of "Silencence", unless you are referring to "Sientese" which does mean sit down. XD

| I'm half Swedish, half New England mutt (English, Irish, German, Acadian, Native, and possibly Spanish).
I speak English and Latin (well... I understand Latin. It isn't really spoken), and some French and Swedish. My first language was Swedish, but I've forgotten much of it.
