So I been thinking about... Well, lots of stuff.
However, one thing on my mind has been... Anime.
Why is it so popular but not popular at the same time?
Why do children and teenagers generally love it (depending on the person) but adults generally hate it? I can't find the answer to those questions, but maybe you midoreans can help me! Now, anything on your mind that you wish to discuss here in the City Hall?

I personally reckon more adults just don't want to admit to liking it lol...
I mean, I like some animes, it's just rare for me to find one I enjoy.
Not to mention listening to some people go on about it can be super boring, then again I guess you can say the same for any hobby that someone's into and you're not.

Personally I want to know how I just hatched a cat from an egg... (playing too much pokemon)

I think anime's been stereotyped as "just for kids", and adults would feel ashamed to enjoy kids' shows. Which I think is stupid, adults can like kids' stuff, it keeps us young.

Yeah, I think the others are right about the "just for kids" feeling. And even if adults did watch some anime, they probably wouldn't talk much about it... That, and I guess kids and teens (and young adults) sorta grew up with anime, so the drawing style and stories are more familiar to them, while they could be annoying for someone who was used to other kind of shows and just think anime looks weird.

The only things on my mind right now are school, and how to pay for it. Duh

I guess you guys are right, considering the fact that I still watch childrens shows, even though a lot of people would say, if they knew: "HEY YOU LITTLE KID! I HEARD YOU WATCH KIDS SHOWS NYEHEHEHEHEHE!" And be all stereotypical about it XD
I imagine them being like Gary.
"I got my Pokemon on time, unlike SOMEONE I KNOW!"
"Small ya later!"
Like he can smell Ash before he sees him.
But I guess that's what makes me like him :I
Let's not let this turn into a rant, so cut this short XD

I've always wondered whether Ash's Pikachu has capped at 100, or if somehow it's level 99999999 by now. Damn thing...
I don't like Pikachu lol.
But yeah, people get really judgmental about "childish" things but I'm like.. So? Why does being an adult mean you have to be boring? Gonna watch and play what I damn well want Jab
For me, being an adult is just about knowing when to be a boring adult... And being a weird child the rest of the time~

I do not think it is a big factor but there is also the cultural invasion part also. It has been a long time since WW2 but there is still an almost unconscious feel of 'us' and 'them' when it comes to anything Axis or Allied for older people. When you get older you generally like things to be similar to what you remember as a child. That is called Tradition. Younger people enjoy the feel of immersing themselves other cultures but older people often tend to resist anything that they see as foreign. I don't care what country you grow up in, people like to be able to take pride in their traditions.

I suspect that in fifty or so years, children will be watching something like Comical Non-sexual critter porn (no, I have no idea how that could even work). It will have become popular in Bolivia and proves that Bolivian culture is the most morally correct culture in the world. It will blatantly advertise that all other cultures are foolish and corrupt. Todays anime fans will wonder how children can enjoy anything so stupid and judgmental.

Seems legit XD
And I wonder about Ash's Pikachu's level as well. I mean, in Black and White (most racist video game names ever, by the by) he get's beat up by a level 5 snivy. Maybe that's because he lost his electric capabilities, but HE STILL HAD IRON TAIL. Gosh...
Since I feel that this conversation has enough proven points, if there are any anime lovers in the vincity, what's your favourite anime? If not, why don't you like it?

I have recently discovered a silly series called Miss Monochrome. Each episode is just four minutes long and so far there are only five episodes but they are fun. Its About the misadventures of a cyborg girl who wants to become a famous idol. The graphics are surprisingly good and the storyline twists are impressively unexpected.

I watch a few animes I find are sorely misinterpreted myself. One of which being Soul Eater, and another being FMA. Both have a fairly long series, but the storyline is good if not only slightly repetitive. I also liked Darker than Black, and those three are my tops in the anime realm.

i know a few people well passed their mid twenties to early thirties who like anime. they grew up watching a few shows though, thats how they got into it. from childhood, they familiarized themselves with it. i think other people typically dont like it because it's not what they were used to watching while they were growing up.

idk anyone who is older than 32 who is an anime fan. my oldest brother, hes not an anime fan but he used to watch dragon ball when he was young. by the time more animes aired after that, he was already grown up and found other means of entertainment. so maybe other people, like my brother, never got the chance to develop a liking for anime because they were getting older and watching less animated things as it became popular.

as for people who are 40+ who have developed their character without anime being aired on television stations, idk what to say about them. i kind of agree with strix that the cultural differences could influence people against wanting to check it out.

crystal, i like all of those Happy there are a few that i could watch over and over though, i guess those are my tops? they would be welcome to NHK, air/airTV, FLCL, tenchi muyo, natsuyuki rendezvous, and FMA. Bouncy Heart

Sounds neat. Have you ever watched anything called Trigun? I also really liked that anime, as well as Black Blood Brothers, or as I like to call it; BBB.

i've heard of trigun, saw a few episodes too when it was on television. i never got into it, it did look like something i could get into. i'd have to watch it from the start.
i tried watching black blood brothers, i got bored. i dont remember if i watched the whole season or half way through. i give anime's a fair chance, sometimes i watch half or the whole of the first season instead of the first couple of episodes. but yeah, it didnt cut it. i can be real picky.

Ouch. Then what about Fruits Basket? That seems to be the only average-high-school-life-for-the-most-part related anime I could get into. That and Ouran High School Host Club at least.

I'm 34 almost 35 and I love anime, and I know lots of anime fans my age or older. People my age did watch anime as children, but I bet most of them didn't know that's what it was. Things like Transformers and Voltron come to mind. But then children's TV went through a xenophobic phase so a lot of people from my generation had to "find" it again.

Hmm, anime I like. Slayers is my absolute favorite, but I like all sorts. FMA (the manga or brotherhood) has a lot of stuff that I usually don't like but the story is so solid that I love it. Magic Knight Rayearth has a special place in my heart for being what made me interested in anime.
