Welcome to the Drop-in Role Play!

What is a drop-in role play? Generally...

We are a role play that is open to anyone to post at anytime. No profiles for characters are created - you simply read the posts before you (however many it takes for you to get the basic jist of what's going on in the current scene) then make a post in response. You may introduce a new character to the scene (perhaps a friend drops by) and/or play as the current characters in the scene. We advance a story together with no set plot in order to see where it will go. This means that characters will come and go, become witches, vampires, and demi-gods more times than we can count, and all of this is perfectly okay! Happy

Perhaps you work on a story with others that you really enjoy? Make a spin off! We are here for expression, idea generating, free spirits that hate structure, and fun!

This thread will be perfect for people unable to commit to a long-term rp. Just drop in an post wherever with no obligation!

Overview:

1. No elaborate character bios.
2. Anyone can post at anytime!
3. We play the same characters; advancing the story together.
4. No plot --> unknown ending D:
5. POV can vary.
6. No literacy limit, but try your best.
7. ...maybe more, but they'll be added later with no notifications.

The Rules:
1. Be nice
2. Seriously, just avoid being a dick.

Be aware that because we play the same characters, introducing a new character means that others are allowed to play them! If you don't enjoy the idea of someone playing a character you created, this may not be the right role play for you.

This style works on your flexibility as an author. Can you come up with an awesome response to a post that completely threw you off track?

Introduced Characters?

Reminder: You can play any of these characters. Just remember to attempt staying true to their general characteristics. Want to introduce a new character? Go for it! Just remember they will be open game for others to role play.

Although there are no elaborate, complete history character bios, you are welcome to make a small character profile - no more than 100 characters - for elements that you have already introduced for a new character in the role play. If he/she hasn't mentioned their daddy issues, then it can't be included here.

Example:

Introduced Character
Name: Annie Box
Demeanor: Cranky and a bit paranoid.
Location/Other Important Things: Come too close to her 20,000 cats and you'll regret it.

^General template. Keep it very short.

If you want to do one of these short bios, just tack it onto the bottom of one of your posts and I'll add it to the list of characters. Feelin' lazy? I'll write and update a quick blurb.

Disclaimer

This is my first time trying out this style of role play. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you think of something to make the rules/bios/experience more enjoyable and sensible, let me know!

Here is the link to the handy-dandy OOC forum just for that and in-case more of us need friends D: !

Story Thus Far

Honestly, this is going to be filled with story updates that don't match our story at all. I expect our story to be too random to make a linear history.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There once was a cat determined to rule the world.

*This is essentially a blank post that will hopefully be assigned to a more important task than disconnected ramblings in the future.

It took the fourth ring of her alarm to coax Mara Hearth from the most peaceful dream she’d remembered in years. She had stood alone at the edge of a cliff decorated with wild flowers in the height of their bloom; observing clusters of tree canopies spotting off into the horizon like sun glares of multiple stars. A light breeze swept between her bare ankles and flitted up her legs while another gust stroked across her scalp, pushing her brown locks past her eyes to span the part of her dampened hair and rest unusually on the other side. Yet none of this concerned her as she felt the dire need to watch for something in the distance.

What was there? Was something coming?

Seconds turned into hours, days passed quickly with each rise and fall of the distant sun, and in the waning moments of her dream weeks seemed to pass all without a blink toward the edge of her dream. She thought she saw a tremor shift the leaves far off on the rim of the horizon, but she awoke before investigating to a dark room she reluctantly returned to each morning. She called it, begrudgingly, her own.

Rolling to her other side, Mara’s hand blindly smashed down on her alarm clock. It’s squawking paused for a moment before filling the silence of her room again with ramblings. “Good morning, Mara. The weather today will be overcast with a 10% chance of acid rain. Mayor Edilberg was reportedly murdered around 3 am last night, and his position has been filled by the second-in-command, Marcus Mayers.”

As per usual,” Mara grumbled, once again disappointed by dull routine. The alarm listed more breaking news - which was rarely different from any previous morning report she’d ever heard - until her usual primal desire to ruthlessly maim her mechanical foe encouraged her to swing her feet to the cold wooden floor.

“Your word of the day is ‘gratuitous’,” it called as Mara’s fingers gripped the alarm angrily and threw open her novel-sized window. “Have a splendid sunlight!” was the last phrase she heard before the device was thrown from the window; landing with a plop as it met a quick watery demise. Slamming the window shut, Mara finally felt awake and cheerful.

Joanna knocked on Mara's bedroom door and called through the keyhole. "Sweetie? What's all that noise coming from in there? Are you alright?"

Mara said nothing, and continued getting dressed and ready for the day ahead.

"Honey? You open this door right now! What's happened?" Her mother sounded panicked, and her voice was getting higher and higher as she tried to sound calm.

Mara pulled a shirt over her head and headed towards the door, creaking it open slowly. She glared out at her mother's worried face for a long five seconds, and then shut the door again. She didn't want to deal with this right now.

(Oh wow, didn't see the reply until now. Sorry! D: )

Joanna sighed as the door shut in her face. Her daughter was clearly having a rough morning - as most teen-aged children go through, particularly in The Locks - but the commotion from Mara's room didn't involve bodily injury, thankfully.

"Mara, it's almost time for work, so I need to head out!" she called through the door, hoping her daughter hadn't buried herself back underneath her blankets. "Did you hear the morning reports?" she asked, waiting for a response.

Mara had indeed returned to the warm, dark covers of her preferred dwelling and bundled herself with so many blankets that her mother's squeaky voice was now only a faint cry below the octave that her head would surely split open. She grumbled when her mother asked about the reports. Mara had heard them as they flew out her window, but not much attention was paid.

Sensing Mara's hesitation, Joanna diligently began to relay them. "Possibly high waters around noon and midnight so avoid the East edge, water temperature is warming so avoid the ice, water toxicity levels are at 20%, heavy storms expected on the surface so stay underground, and 10% chance of acid rain on the surface," she repeated almost word-for-word. There were other parts to the morning reports as well, but the dangerous environmental conditions that could hurt her family were the only ones she cared about and the only ones that sent her into a panic. She had never been one for politics.

The tall, blue-haired girl sat atop a streetlight outside the Hearth's house, glancing at the sky while biting her thumb nail. She sat rather strange, more like crouching with one hand draped over one leg. Her eyes darted anxiously across the sky, searching for something. A sign perhaps.
