The Dragon Leaders Reappear!

It has been more than a month since the tense ending of the Lotus Festival, and for the first time since storming off, the Dragons have reappeared in the city. You push your way to the front of the crowd and see it’s just Lien, Tu, and Sho, standing in the middle of square.
Mizu Hanako is notably absent.

Murmurs run through the crowd, but no one can pluck up the courage to shout anything to the chiefs. Lien is clearly angry, her eyes sparking with barely restrained fury. You know that Tu is under duress, judging from the tenseness of his jaw. Sho…well, he’s staring at the clouds, but that’s somewhat expected.

Tu apparently decides that the crowd is large enough for their announcement. The dragon steps forward, his face set, and folds his hands in his sleeves.

“Mizu Hanako,” he says slowly, “Has been kidnapped.”
The whispers amongst the listeners suddenly increase exponentially, as everyone starts relating thoughts to the others around. Tu raises his hands, and the entire crowd falls silent, listening intently.

“She has been taken,” Tu continues, “By our brethren, the Poison, Metal, and Energy Dragons.” You see Lien mutter something to herself at the word ‘brethren.’ “We have sent messages to their leaders, saying that if Hanako is released by August 4th, then we will forgive the transgression. However…if she is not returned, then we must treat this as an act of war.”

Immediately, the crowd erupts with questions.

“Why would anyone do this?!”

“Who are they?”

“What will you do?”

Lien’s eyes flash, and she steps forward.

“Their names are Jon and Lin Tanso-Qi, of the Energy Dragons,” she shouts over the din, “Rin Jinku, of the Metal Dragons, and Lutalo Lefu of the Poison Dragons. You met them, at the Lotus Festival, when they were making demands of us. We believed the matter resolved, but they have taken action. If they do not submit, we will retaliate with all the force necessary to rescue Hanako, and to defeat this attack on the Dragon Leaders.”

Someone from the crowd shouts, “What did they want in the first place?”

“Well,” Sho says, still staring up at the clouds, “Ages ago, we made treaties with them, giving them some islands to populate, but apparently our agreement isn’t suitable anymore. They’ve…’outgrown’ it.” The Wind Dragon makes airquotes with his fingers, then goes back to staring listlessly at the sky.

More mutterings run through the crowd. A rebellion? Other Dragon leaders kidnapping Mizu? Possibly a war brewing? Worry is obvious throughout the assembled people, and there are flashes of rage present as well. Overall though there is a sense of disbelief at what they've just been told. Someone kidnapping a Leader? Who would do such a thing? Or even could?

Tu raises his hands once more, quieting the crowd.

“As I said,” he announces, “We are willing to forgive this. However, if Hanako is not released…” it is clear from his voice that Tu expects this to be the case, “Then we will have a war on our hands.”

“How can we help?” someone shouts. Tu inclines his head toward the general area the shout had come from.

“Any assistance would be met with the deepest gratitude,” the Earth Dragon replies gravely, “and I would be willing to accommodate any and all who wish to assist with me in the Earth Colony Capital of Dixiong, located on the Metal Island Jinkuma. Supplies and weapons will be distributed if necessary, and we will act from there.”

“We will have Hanako back,” Lien announces, “one way or another.” The three dragons nod to the crowd, and the throng of people parts as they walk towards the gate. Tu turns just before he leaves.

“Remember,” he says, “If Hanako is released by August 4th, then nothing will come of this. If you gather at Dixiong on that date, we will be able to act immediately on the decisions of the other Dragon Leaders.” Tu gives you one more nod, then exits through the gate.

Of course my favorite dragon leader gets kidnapped.

I hope to be able to participate in the first few days, but internet right now where I am is really wonky, and the computer isn't even mine, so I probably won't be able to participate much at all until wednesday.
