| I think in that situation it would all depend on what you've had before.

| Bound, I think that going to the source is the best way to get the real deal. If you think about it what is the norm for most countries isn't the same in others. For example I have one heck of a time tracking down Miso here in the states where as in Japan any store has it. Even the conbini. Menus change too, say if you look at a MacDonald's. Here I stand no chance of ever seeing the Macha MacFlurry where as in Japan it is a seasonal item.
I think the Chinese dish on its own might have won, the no spicy food before hand just made the memory stick stronger.
Then to the jalapeņo I ate upon my return from Japan take a close second...I though it was a sweet pepper ate it whole T.T Didn't see that one coming...

| @Kerry: Yeah, I guess you're right about that. :3 Plus, when it comes to cooking, I guess people where the food is from know how to cook it better?
A... a whole jalapeno... D: /flails around
I can't believe you survived that!
@MissNINJA: I guess you're right there. :3
Does anyone know why, when you eat spicy food, your eyes can water?

| There was much laughter at my expense and some furious hunting for bread of any sort to get the oil out of my mouth. That and I spat it back out pretty darn fast...I like spice but not in surprise.
Your eyes, nose and throat all have a defensive reaction and if I remember right there is a part of the spicy food that activates these defenses if you don't have the tolerance to them.

| Cause the awesome is so intense, your eyes water!
xD
no, but really, I have to agree with kerryfox. there are pain receptors in yuor brian that go off whe you eat spicy or hot food.
With time, they grow up a tolerence, and start to release a natural painkiller when eating hot food, so it's more pleasing than painful.
(Don't ask. I was watching food network and they explained the science of spicy food. xP)

| Thank you both for the explanations~ That's pretty interesting, especially about why you can tolerate spicy food after building up a tolerance. Who would have thought you'd need a painkiller to be able to eat it? XD
I'm kind of wishing we got the food network now, so I could learn things like that~
I was wondering, do either of you cook much spicy food? If you do, what's your favourite recipe and why? If not, what spicy food do you wish you could make? :3
I can cook anything where the sauce comes pre-prepared in a jar. = w= But not much else. Although I've made my own spicy version of spaghetti bolognese before by stirring in some spicy chilli relish that we had lying around while I was cooking it. I'd love to be able to make a curry completely from scratch. I think I might try that now my semester's over and I have more time to research recipes and shop for ingredients and stuff~ Although I wonder if there aren't some things I could only get from a specialist shop. We have a couple of Chinese supermarkets nearby, but nowhere you can buy specialist Indian food...

| I can't make anything. D:
Just nachos.
But if you get the materials from the Chinese and Indian specialty stores, it works really well even if you can't make anything like me.
Today, I had these REALLY amazing potato thingies.
A neighborhood friend brought them from Pakistan and gave us a small bag.
IT
WAS
HOT.
Not even kidding, it numbed my mouth after eating a handful or two. And I'm used to this stuff. But it tasted SO SO SO amazing.

| Nachos are good! They're good sharing food. It beats my old crowning achievement of 3-minute noodles. XD What do you put on them? I've only had nachos a couple of times.
Haha, wow, that sounds spicy. :D Were they the kind of colour you can tell is going to be spicy? Or did they look really innocuous?
I've accidentally eaten innocuous-looking spicy foods before... orz

| Lol.
They look fried, so it's hard to tell with them.
They look like they could be innocent honey BBQ chips.
I put everything on.
4 cheeses, jalepenos, hot sauce, taco beef
You name it, I think I put it on nachos.

| Kiwi fruit? :D
Seriously, though, that sounds interesting. Though I think I could only have one type of cheese. I've never had nachos with taco beef...
Forgive the (probably very obvious) question, but what's the difference between taco and regular beef? How it's cooked/flavored? /has never had tacos orz

| I see~ Spices. Spices are good. :3
I wish I knew how to use spices in my own cooking, but I get worried about what flavours I'm possibly combining. XD I'm sure there's a cookery book or something out there that could help me...

| I love hot foods, especially chicken curry! I just wish I could handle them a little better, I don't think I could take something really hot like a Vindaloo, I am getting better though.

| SPICY FOOD FTW. <333
I love spicy food, it's always so good.
But I don't love it too much to choose to live off of it. I always love variety. 8D
I always like eating kimchi noodles so I can add all the spice. @ w @
I also like to add Tabasco sauce to my steak. The flavour is so goooood~
One time at a barbecue, I began eating my ribs with Tabasco sauce and eventually got the younger ones to eat the stuff with Tabasco sauce, too. xD
Now they love the spiciness! ^ w ^

| Cholula is my favorite hot sauce. It's yummy, I especially love it with fries!
A few years ago, I loved to have jalapenos on my pizza. It added an interesting, delicious kick. But, I ended up having it too much and got tired of it. I think now would be a good time to eat it again since it's been quite a while.
So, who here is a chipotle lover?
