Midorea: The Valhyr
Adventure Game

Tumblr - Facebook - Twitter

Midorea: The Valhyr is an adventure game that follows the journey of Yaelsun, a merchant ship captain, as he attempts to find a mysterious artifact stolen from his ship.

Six weeks at sea and a thousand miles travelled, Yaelsun has finally returned home to The Gated City.

He's brought with him goods and wares from along the coast, but hidden in the cargo is an artifact that carries a heavier price, a price that was almost paid by the priest who delivered it.

Both the priest and the artifact have been smuggled into the city where they soon disappear, forcing Yaelsun to set out on a path of self-discovery, uncovering a deeper mystery steeped in political intrigue and fantasy.

Platform: PC, Mac, Linux

Midorea is a project that has grown through years and years of development, getting its start as a phpbb based RPG nearly eight years ago. During the initial RPG’s run, we built up and established the world we’re using as the basis for this new generation of games, complete with its own lore and language. We’re taking these ideas and creating a story that is separate but still connected to the original RPG timeline.

Midorea: The Valhyr is the first part in the series, acting as a lead-in to the events of an overarching storyline. It’s being developed as a 2D Adventure Game, with puzzle aspects related to the world’s magic. You play as a one of our main characters: Yaelsun Valhyr, and follow his journey as he unravels the mystery behind a strange artifact's disappearance.

Story

Pictured: Ksam, the earth deity.
Midorea is an ancient world held at the mercy of the four gods, each one a personification of an element. At the very beginning, this pantheon reigned over their creation for a brief period of time, but eventually left to watch from a distance, their creation abandoned to fend for themselves in an unforgiving land. Those who survived came together and started a rebellion against their neglectful creators, but were struck down and divided across the continent. Ever since this event, the world has been in an endless destructive cycle, set in motion by the deities to keep humanity from becoming a threat to their divine rule. This cycle continues on, every few thousand years a great cataclysm is brought to the world to tear apart the civilizations humanity builds up, defining the end of the era and the beginning of a new cycle. Each cycle brings with it a new ruling civilization, a Tribe, that is distinct from the others scattered around the land in their size and power. These Tribes make up the world of Midorea, each one unique in their culture and how they were formed.

Our story takes place during the end of the seventh cycle, as humanity advances far beyond the other eras combined, igniting a cultural revolution that redefines humanity’s place within the world.

The Prequel follows the adventures one of the pivotal characters of our story, Yaelsun Valhyr, a merchant importing goods from Naquirfa into the city. His cargo also includes something else, or someone else: a marked fugitive from the same province, on the run after he makes off with a an important piece his culture’s heritage, deemed blasphemous by the state and scheduled to be disposed of.

World

Pictured: Map of Midorea
Midorea is a country that is made up of eight provinces, each one related to a Tribe, which are distinct in their cultural identity and the power that they hold over a region. Along with these eight provinces, there are two territories governed directly by The Union. The Neutral Zone is where the Gated City is located, which is the capital of the union and hub of all Midorea. The nomad land is an independent territory where non-tribespeople are granted independence and autonomy away from Tribes.

The Gated City is where our initial arc of the story will take place. It is essentially a melting pot of every tribe in Midorea, but distinct in their culture and identity which developed independent of the tribes over thousands of years. The Gated City is the Capital of the Union of Tribes, centered in the region regarded as the 'neutral zone'. The Union is governed by a council of three generals, presided over by the Chief General, and each one controls a specific branch of government: Border Patrol guards the city's borders, the Peace Officers police the city, and the Ground Forces are troops reserved to enforce the Union's peace.

FAQ

What is this?
We're creating a new generation of games based off the world of Midorea. We are moving away from the browser-based format, exploring new ways of telling the stories of Midorea.

When is it coming out?
We are planning multiple games that will cover an over-arching storyline. The first of this series will be Midorea: The Valhyr, and will be released early 2017.

Can I help?
We have an established team and are not looking to expand at the moment.

Yay! The women have clothes!

Sorry. Been dealing with a bit of frustration about that on a couple other sites.

And I think pictures here makes things faster to look at.

Alright. Didn't want to make everything load slowly due to a bunch of images.

And yep! Expect to see more ladies soon. But for now here's the men's counterpart:

*pulls the red haired guy's beard*

I have a suggestion/request: If you make a chatroom, please make a way to shut it off and have it stay shut off? I get severely painful sensory overload from chat rooms chatting away while I'm trying to focus on playing.

Of course. A global chat system is not really a priority anyway, we don't want to take away focus from the forums.

Earth Deity sketch concepts, just laying down some ideas and figuring out which direction to take them. Plan on revising these a little later. Working on the water deity for now though.

Will player characters have to interact with the deities? Or will players be able to play the game without having their characters take part in fictional religion?

The story of Midorea revolves around the deities, so chances are you will eventually come into contact with them/take part in events that are directly related to them.

A few creature sketches! Several designs for gryphons found in Cyphiria’s vast savanna. Their wings are mostly for gliding and for show, but some of the smaller breeds are able to fly.

The Giants are enormous beasts that roam the forests and jungles of Zuntai, protecting whatever lies at the center of the province. Despite their size they are extremely elusive, often believed to be nothing more than myth.
