It seems that even the Lotus Festival can't be celebrated in peace.

Three groups of strangers have turned up at the festival, demanding council with the dragon clan leaders. Rumors of the identities of these strangers have been circulating: some claim that they are members of dragon clans that humans have never seen. Others say that they are impersonators, trying to disrupt the peace that the dragons and the humans have found together. Other rumors even claim that the individuals are outcasts from the dragon clans seeking revenge on the leaders who banished them.

"I saw them myself!" one person exclaims, "Big groups of them, too! They had the same air as the dragon clan members. You know dragons: they aren't like humans at all, even when they look like us."

Another person adds, "They marched right up to where the dragon clan leaders were staying, no fear about them. They must be powerful to come here with such confidence. They talked about "reclaiming" land that the dragon clans stole from them." They pause and turn to their friend. "Do you think it could be true?" The two individuals begin speaking among themselves, so you decide to excuse yourself and make your way down the busy streets of the Great Gated City. The crowd seems to be gathering at the central hub of the Lotus Festival, so you follow along.

You reach a thick concentration of people and assume that this is where those strangers are gathered; but before you can think to move in closer, you hear a loud roar that shakes the cobblestones beneath your feet.

The crowd immediately thins as people run in fear, although many still remain. At least you have room to move now. The next voice you hear is certainly not one that you expected. "You dare make such brazen accusations here, of all places?" It was Huo Lien, the Fire Dragon Queen. Did that deafening noise come from her? Was a fight about to break out? You begin to squeeze through the crowd before a thick voice stops you in your tracks.

"And you dare act as if you haven't committed such a crime?" Commotion builds toward the front of the crowd, so you continue pushing through until you can see these strangers yourself. There aren’t as many people as you expected, but the aura that this group carries is so heavy and intimidating, paranoia begins to sit in. You wonder if some of them are hidden in the crowd, waiting to attack.

People push against your stiffened back, alerting you to the scene in front of you rather than the anxieties in your head. About twenty strangers are standing in the face of the four Dragon Clan Leaders. Their clothes seem reminiscent of what the dragons wear, although their garb doesn’t seem to be quite so refined. Could it be true that the leaders really are connected to these individuals? Do they share a culture after all?

Lien is standing tall against the group, indignation chasing out any fear that she could possess. Tu is placed firmly next to her, although his emotions can't be as easily read as her’s. Hanako and Sho are behind them; the former is visibly shaken while the latter doesn’t seem fazed at all. You can see the guards of the leaders standing at a distance, but they seem somewhat confused about what’s going on.

Tu steps forward, keeping his eyes locked on one individual. Maybe that’s their leader? He certainly gives off that sort of impression. He is heavy and tall, and his appearance is intensified by deep eyes and dark hair. What stands out the most, however, is the pattern of scales on his face. You give a sweeping observation to his company and find that most of them have scales, too. Tu suddenly speaks, although he doesn’t break eye contact with the foreign dragon. "This is not the time or the place for such a confrontation. Matters with your clans have already been sorted out, but if you still have qualms with the decisions that were made, you can take them up with our government agencies at another time."

The dragon lets out another deafening roar, so powerful that his mouth stretches beyond its human-looking jaw, taking its natural draconic form. You can’t stop your shaking, and some people even topple back. Others run. It’s hard to hear him speak over the resulting ringing in your ears, and you notice that your vision is even blurry. From what you can see though, his face is back in its human appearance. "So what? So you can disregard us yet again? We came here for a reason. We demand recognition!" The strangers cheer in response, somehow unfazed by his display of power. Another individual demands the floor.

"We're not looking for violence; we just want our voices to be heard!" More cheers follow, and she turns to acknowledge the curious bystanders gathered around. Her voice is much lighter than the voice of the man’s, and her entire air is motherly rather than dangerous. You notice that she is almost entirely scaleless, displaying only one scale underneath her right eye. "These people probably don't even know who we are. We are dragons, equal in every way to you - yet we are treated as nothing more than the ferals that roam the wilderness."

Another dragon puts a hand on her shoulder, as if to soothe her. His eyes, however, never meet hers, and he remains silent. Instead, he continues watching the clan leaders as his comrades speak.

A woman in the group steps forward, although she isn’t as airy as the one who came before her. She stands firmly, as if to personally oppose Tu. Her stare is as heavy as the metals that adorn her clothes. "You're killing us." She says bluntly. By the tone of her voice, you doubt that she is trying to make an ethical appeal. "Without the land and resources that you rob us of, we're locked in poverty and depression." Her mouth tightens as she says, “We’re desperate, and the actions that we make from here out will be a result of the treatment you’ve given us. You’ll only have yourselves to blame.”

"Enough!" Lien interjects, the roar of flames amplifying her voice. "We won't hear any more of this. Leave this festival now, or face the full force of our armies!"

You brace yourself, expecting the first speaker of the group to charge at Lien; but two of his allies grab him by both arms and pull him back. "This isn't the end." he spits, knocking the others away. "We will be heard, or we will take back our land by force.” Regaining some composure, he straightens his robe with a smirk. When he speaks again, you feel the bass of his voice deep in your own chest. “Tread carefully, dear queen." He turns around and releases another roar, dispersing the crowd and leaving with the rest of his group behind him.
