[OOC= The following introductory post is all OOC, for the purposes of explaining this roleplay, its rules and all other related information.]

:A Brief Introduction to "The Dead Keep Dancing":

The Dead Keep Dancing is a vampire role play game of political and social intrigue loosely based off of the structure of the popular LARP (live action role play) and table top game Vampire: The Masquerade. The scenes of power plays and social challenge are set to the backdrop of the glittering jewel studded world of the elite nobility of Britain in the early 1600's. The time of grand balls, theater, culture and social scenes like no other. In this role play, you can start off as any of the Vampiric clans.

Your goals, depending on which clan you choose and what type of character you are playing, will vary - but one goal is tantamount: You want to gain power enough to survive for millenia, continue your line and further all of your goals. The best way to do that is through social and political machinations, though how you play that is up to you. Twining through out mortal society is the Cainite - or Vampiric - society and the courts of the damned. Regal, all powerful Princes of the vampiric society hold dominion over territories, divided by invisible lines. You must gain your power and goals, while twining your story with theirs, your culture with the mortal world, and always dancing just out of reach of the Church's vile, vicious, deadly Hunters - puritan humans who are trained to identify, hunt and kill you, and Werewolves who are, of all the races, the only ones who strike true fear into the hearts of the Vampires - vicious, dangerous beasts.

Come, join the complexe, multi-faceted world of the Vampires. See how long you can survive, how high you can rise through the ranks before another steals your place. Welcome, to The Dead Keep Dancing.

For the purposes of this RP, all you need to know will be detailed in the Setting Post below, and the OOC thread here.

:Setting:

The year is 1603. England's beloved Queen Elizabeth I, the last of the Tudors, has died and, though King James VI of Scotland has united the crowns of Scotland and England, the English empire mourns the loss of it's Queen. Though these years have been earmarked by ends to wars and true peace, not everyone is content. The church has been increasingly active, sending out puritan fanatics to bombard the new king with petitions abolishing rituals. In the world of the Masquerade, they are sending ever more Hunters out in search of the Living Dead. The English Empire may be at peace, but the underworld of the Vampires has never been more dangerous. One slip of the Masquerade could bring the wrath of the Church an it's God down.

The Ton holds sway in London, center of the Socialite world. The rich and noble, those of the leisure classes, make their way to the many parties and never ending rounds of fetes that make up the season. In this world of glittering ballrooms and sparkling smiles, drawing rooms filled with perfume and fine wines, the Vampires mix and mingle with the humans, their pale and room temperature corpses hardly noticeable under the bright lights of the dance floor, or the equally dim lights of the streets and drawing rooms. This world of social and political intrigue exists outside of the bounds of normal day to day life in London, outside of the politics and sway of normal life, which is what attracts the attention of those who dance under the Masquerade, the Vampires. With most of the events taking place at night or in places not touched by sunlight, they risk little in attending the gatherings and are able to spread their influence with out causing much concern, for many of those who attend are not only the wealthy elite, but also those who sit on the councils that hold the ear of the King.

While the men compete for political prowess and the ear of the king and his councilors to gain control and meet their own ends, the women vie for dominance atop the diamond studded throne of socialites, striving to gain power and prestige based on positions, political contacts, pedigree, lineage and costuming. Behind every smile lies the hidden venomous fangs, underneath every dainty glove lies the claws of a tigress. No one can be trusted. Alliances are made and broken. In the swirling, sparkling masses of fine fabrics and music that make up the parties of the elite, the Masquerade is always in danger of being broken.

Outside this glittering world of parties and privilege exists the real London. A place filled with masses of people going about their business. Priests and puritan fanatics patrol the nights, searching for the Walking Dead, the demons from beyond the grave, ready and able to kill them when discovered. The alleys are just as unsafe for the Hunters as they are for the Prey. The slums of London are filled with the easiest food to quench the thirst, but are the most dangerous places to hunt. Beware the eyes of God!

:Introduction:

Lady Allegra Devonport, Duchess of Blackwood, was throwing a ball. Not any ball, the ball of the season. As anyone who was part of both the Cainite and Mortal world knew, The Blackwood's ball was the place to be. It would be a veritable who's who of the Haute Ton, the prince of England himself would be there. Every year those of both the cainite (or Vampiric, depending on who you spoke to) and the mortal nobility would make their way back from their summer estates in the country side for the beginning of the season in London, and the Blackwood's would open their doors to welcome them.

A glittering sea of fine fashions and people. A fete to mach even Lady Devonshire's summer fetes. Food of every sort imaginable, and all with in the prestigeous Blackwood London Manor, second largest residential building, next to the properties of the King himself. Those vampires who were as yet unacknowledged would come forth to present themselves to the London Prince, King of the Red Court. Those who had done so would compete for his attention and, when he retired, would compete for the favour and attention of his Consort, Lady Allegra Devonport.

The house itself was enourmous, and glamorous. Tall, whitewashed walls framed immaculate lawns and a stone paved road leading up to grand stairs. Iron gates of mastercrafted design framed the front walk, barring entrance when visitors were not welcome. Up an unusually long front drive was the manor itself, tall and elegantly designed. A broad front staircase decorated with lamps and well tended shrubbery and potted plants greeted guests before they were swept up in the intricately carved french front doors. For the ball, those double doors were thrown open, inviting the guests to enter with attendants standing ready to take their outerwear.

Inside the manor was just as stunning as the outside. Brightly lit candelabra showed a view of marble floors and a round grand stair case on either side of the enormous entry way, leading up in a curve to meet on the second floor, directly above another set of double doors which were open and led into the ball room. Doors to either side of the hall led to various recieving rooms which were at present closed.

The ball room was spacious and lit again with stunning crystal candelabra, bathing the room in soft, intimate lighting despite it's size. The floor was waxed and shone brightly, the complexe designs obviously hand painted. Colums stood around the rooms walls, large windows on the far walls held seats for those wishing more privacy. The far doors were thrown open to the nights air and the beautful gardens beyond, offering a place to walk under the moonlight for the amorous or bored. A place off to the side was set up for the band, and across from them on the left was a table groaning under refreshments. Waiters circulated here and there around the edges of the vast dance area serving wines and taking empty glasses.

The Blackwoods themselves seemed to fit seemlessly into their surroundings. As immaculate as their home, they looked like finely made jewels, glittering under the lights. Bathed in radiance, Lady Blackwood looked almost goddesslike, her flowing black tresses bound in an elaborate coiffe atop her head, glittering with rubies and diamonds. Her dress was of the finest material, dark and gauzy on top. It looked as though it may rip easily, but as all knew, such things only happened to the lesser made garments. The dress was deep emerald green, so dark it was almost black. Around the edges of the hems were sewn in actual glittering emerald stones. At the top of her bodice a large, sparkling emerald and diamond brooch shone, and a collar at her neck dripped more of the dark coloured rubies and emeralds. A diamond dinner ring rested regally on her left ring finger. With the air of a queen, she smiled, greeted guests and performed her hostesses duties at the side of her husband.

Lord Blackwood was no less splendidly dressed. He stood beside his wife and consort in silence, strong and sure of himself, and imposing. He bowed his head here, murmurred greetings there if he chose and prowled around the room like an elegant, graceful predator. He wore a suit of finest silk and satins, his dark boots polished to a high shine. He held his gloves in his off hand as he led his wife with the other. His hair, as darkly coloured as his wife's, was neat and orderly. Despite the fine make of his clothing and the imperious figure he cut, he was dressed somberly where his wife was more dramatic. He had no ornamentation save for a single, flawless and large blood coloured ruby set into the pin at his throat that held his doublet in place. Cold, piercing grey eyes oversaw the ball, missing nothing.

This ball marks the beginning of the London season, but it is also a chance for all of those present to create the "pecking" order - who will be on top this season? Who will gain favour with the Prince and his Court, both in the Mortal and Cainite society? It was a chance for those who were new in town to present themselves to the Prince of the London Domain, and perhaps to make an impression upon him.

((This RP is now OPEN! You may submit your profiles to me, once completed! Make sure to read up on the information in the OOC thread!))

Lady Allegra Devonport, Duchess of Blackwood, Consort to the Prince of London and King of the Red Court was bored. More than bored. She was dieing of bordome. Every year it was the same routine, plan an extrvegant ball, go to fete after fete, pretend to be human, and then retire to the country side. If she'd known five hundred years ago that she would be playing Lady of the Keep for the rest of eternity, she'd have killed herself before Adere had had the honour of Embracing her.

Still, it wasn't so bad. She had a decent life, and Adere was...She took a moment to look at the stunning man at her side. He looked back at her, his cool grey eyes holding a spark of amusement. At her. Damn the man, he was laughing at her again. Ofcourse, naturally she was the only one who could read such subtle changes in his expressions and countenance, but really. That was as it should be. Sighing inwardly, she went on to greet the next guest, the cool, polite smile never faltering on her exquisit features. As far as anyone here would know, she was the paragon of etiquette and polite, hostessly grace.

She smiled wide when she saw a familiar and welcome face enter the room. Pale ivory skin and a head full of tumbling golden curls dripping with diamonds and white gold met her gaze slightly ahead of ice blue eyes and a warm smile. Finally, Jacqueline is here. Wretched girl, making me wait so long. Hopefully some of the others will also start arriving so soon. It's a pain that the other vampires take so long to arrive at mortal functions, especially when we are hosting them. She thought inwardly, inclining her head in greetings to Lady Jacqueline Leblanc, Countess of Redford. She daintly sniffed, holding back a sneer of contempt for the poor fool who had wed her - dominated and mindless, save for what she told him to think. To all the world he looked like his own man. Older than her, by appearances alone, by more than ten years. He was not so old as to be unattractive, and he cut a decent, if somber and dry figure next to the golden, glowing figure of his wife and enslaver.

Adere had also noticed her and greeted her with a nod flavoured with more interest than he had any other guest so far. Jacqueline was a favourite with them, as all knew, and why should they not? They were friends, and it was beneath them to hide it. As the rest of the collected guests noticed their interest in the new arrivals, they predictably began to whisper in awe of her. How silly these mortals were. They gave Jacqueline awe for being merely noticed by them, yet failed to realise how dangerous she was. Or that her husband was completely dominated by her. Ofcourse, credit must be given where due... Jacqueline was a master of Domination, and skilled with the subtlest workings of the skill. She was also a master of the Auspex skill and, ofcourse, Obtenebration, which was her clan's specialty. Lasombra were so very secretive, using the very shadows around them only made sense.

Sighing, they continued moving slowly about the ball room, greeting and mingling. Eventually, she would get to Jacqueline, until then, she would be content to be bored and see who would arrive on time - for vampires - and who would either be so late as to be insulting, or simply not show up. She wondered which would have the worse effect to their status, the late ones or the absentees...

Maurice was never one for balls. Much too fancy. Give him a bar, a brawl and a brothel any day of the week compared to this. He had been invited, though, and felt that it would be rude to decline. The Nosferatu had been there for about forty-five minutes, keeping to the shadows and watching everyone else intently. He shifted from corner to corner, watching the crowd that slowly came in while keeping himself hidden. He didn't want to put any of the humans off of their fancy little cakes and punch, which he would most likely do if he were seen.

He was here mostly to pick up new customers. Any other vampires that may want to use him for an information source. Business had been slow as of late, and he needed something to do. The rats have been getting bored. They needed to go out and do some work. And work couldn't be done if they didn't have any.

None of the other Vampires in the room, what few there were, noticed him as of yet. But he was fine. There were still a few hours of ball left, much to his obvious delight. He scoffed. A few hours in a hundreds of years life was nothing. That was all that he had to remember. He would be in and out of here quickly, and back to his home in the tunnels. Only a few hours...

Jacqueline nodded to her dear friends Allegra and Adere as she decended the marble staircase with her witless 'husband' on her arm, allowing him to appear to be leading her. As if he had ever had the mind. The man was merely a convenient tool for her use in achieving her goals in the mortal world. She, ofcourse, had never and would never take him into her bed - the thought of taking such a creature was sickening. He was a convenient snack, when she didn't feel like leaving or having something brought in, but nothing more.

As they made their way unhurriedly through the herd of mortals, she nodded a greeting to this or that 'important' mortal, and spoke a few quiet words to some of the other cainites present. She had no need to hurry to Adere and prostrate herself, as most usually did - she was already acknowledged and extremely well connected. Her status was already enough that she was afforded her own time and respect with in the London Domain and the Red Court. Sniffing with disdain at one young mortal buck's failing attempts to gain the attention of a female nearby of equally young age, a gesture she knew would only be seen as 'french sensibilities' to the mortals, she arrived atlast to where Adere and Allegra were holding sway over the social court.

With a graceful, elegant motion, she sank into a short courtsey, respectful, but not overtly so - indicative of her position and standing in both the mortal and cainite sphere, her mortal husband bowing just a hair deeper.

"Good evening Lord and Lady Vierrelle. How are you this night? I trust that all is well?" that was Adere, asking if she had managed to feed well and if she had woken well for the evening.

"Good evening, My Lord Blackwood, Lady Allegra."she greeted easily, in a soft, musical voice, using a more familiar term for her friend. A few of those near by noted her use, eyebrows raised, which others took it as a matter of course. Those that did not batte an eye were those that had been here long enough to know that she was close enough to them to be so informal, while those who were not would find out soon enough. She always took the time to make her status known. "I am indeed well this evening." she said, giving the apropriate response to indicate that she had both woken and fed well prior to the ball.

"Have you had a chance to visit the new boutique on Porter's?" now Allegra, asking if she had heard of the change in the information network.

She had, as it happens, heard that the Nosferatu who had, up until not too long ago, run the London network had left, leaving his childer in his place to continue. She approved of the change - this would allow him to continue to gather connections elsewhere to funnel back to his established London network. Or so she assumed he was doing. That is, after all, what she would do. "I have, but I have not yet had a need to visit. I hear the proprieter is descreet and carries valuable wares?" she inquired, her tone almost bored, though her friend would know otherwise. Any new player in the London scene - even one who had been here all along and simply acquired a new position with in the system, was of high interest to her. She liked to know where things lay.

"Oh yes. We would not have endorsed him, had he not been so." Allegra replied, while the Prince inclined his head in agreement. Leaning in, she added "He is here, I believe. He would not turn down our invitation, when it may make him new contacts. There will be newcomers here this evening. No doubt he is hidden." Allegra pulled back from the conspiratorial whisper, with a mischevious smile as if they had been discussing some amusing secret. Jacqueline smiled, an expression that was not nearly as warm or playful as Allegra's.

Calling up a quiet bit of energy and focus, she enacted Auspex. With the disorenting visual effect of the world sliding suddenly to the side, and then shifting back into place, she blinked and was looking at the world through an added sharpness. The edges became painfully detailed and defined. She smiled as if nothing had changed, bid her hosts a good evening, and returned to mingling, now with the advantage of Auspex active, seeking out the one person she knew would be here, and hidden behind an Obfuscate.

She smiled inwardly. The Blackwood ball was one of the very few social functions that all vampires in the domain were ordered to appear at, at some point. No exceptions were made, except in very few cases. She found it a highly amusing passtime to rout out all the Nosferatu that, invariably, turned up and tried to hide. Ofcourse, she would be as polite and courteous as she was with any Cainite of the lower clans, and accorded their spy brethren with respect for the information they sold to her. It would never do to alienate such useful informants. Still, their discomfort often made these dreary, blindingly brightly lit social events just a little bit better.

With that happy thought, she fianlly spotted her quarry and let her husband's arm go, allowing him to go off and do normal mortal male things, while she attended business. At ease, and unhurried, she began a circulation that meandered it's way towards him as he moved from corner to corner in the greate ball room, her quiet unconcerned stalking almost like a game, her predatorial nature written in the line of her movements, if one looked close enough. Tonight, she would make her connections with the new name in the information business.
