| (Yeah, I'm still on this..)
Overpopulation is a huge problem, I'd have to agree. But surely the size of the global workforce is vast enough to be mobilised in such a way that will benefit everyone, not just the rich few?
There is enough to go around, but currently it's monopolised by only those who can afford it. If the means of production was not monopolised, production would become more efficient and there would be a much more equal distribution of wealth.
I like your argument about size 0 models, actually.
I've never really viewed it that way, but thats purely because size 0 models are percieved as being obliged, or forced to become size 0.
So with that perception, all size 0 models are condemned for being that body shape, because they're only encouraging other women to become that size through unhealthy habits.
But your perfectly right. No size body shape should be discriminated against, whether that size happens to be tiny or rather large. The media shouldn't be obsessing over any sizes, whether it happens to be putting size 0 women in a good light or a bad one.
Hmm, the media's attitude towards women and weight is disgusting. So they shouldn't be victimising the models, who are just doing their job as best they can, it should be the modelling industry which needs changing.
Very truee.
What upsets me is when people feel the need to alter their appearance drastically through surgery or crash-diets. Its not really a reflection on them as a person, but more of a reflection of their poor self-esteem as a result of these superficial images women are shown every day.

| my point on overpopulation was that resources are entirely the problem. there just ISNT enough. there is not enough space on the globe for all the people in it. thus some people currently have vast ammounts of land and others have nothing. but i think that even if people wanted to be fair and have things equal, we would just end up with everyone still having a tiny living space. and there is not enough fuel and food and so on. things could change, but for me the bottom line is that communism simply cant work in a world that cant support all the people in it.
yea. to be honest, when it comes to surgery, the only thing i could ever imagine getting done is surgery around the eye area, cos i hate how puffy my eyelids are. i cant wear eyeshadow because of it, and it makes me look alot older and just blah. but i hate that women get so much crap done to their bodies that they dont need, i mean, i can respect someone if theyve always wanted one thing done, they get the surgery, and then theyre happy.
but a huge percentage of cosmetic surgery patients are "repeat customers" - and to me, that says the problem is in their head, running far too deep for a scalpel or silicon to fix.

| Ah, but in a society which values each person as an individual and equal to any other, the entire workforce could be mobilised to benefit ever person on the planet. And not just financially:
Renewable, green energy resources would be increasingly avaliable to better all of society. And since employment, education and lifestyle choices would be freely avaliable to each person - and there would be no financial or social purpose for national protectionism - perceptions and stereotypes would be broken down. The psychology of people within society would change. There might no longer be an obligation for women to inevitably have children at a certain age and settle down, there would be the freedom to choose. The dynamics of the classic 'family' might be changed completely. Thus, we wouldn't have such a young population with this unhealthy, consumerist hunger for global resources.
---
I used to absolutely resent my nose, it's got that little ridge in it and it's crooked. It kind of bends to the side. But then I figured I'd look really odd if I changed my nose, I wouldn't look like myself. So I don't think I'd consider changing it. I can hate my nose all I want, but it's my nose.
But like you say, if a person really feels the need to get surgery, they're welcome to it, if it helps their self-esteem, y'know.
But I have heard of this addiction to surgery thing which sometimes occurs. Once a patient's had one cosmetic treatment done, they see another fault which needs to be corrected, and another, and another.
I think any kind of fixation is dangerous really. :\
