| So I said I was gonna and now I am. XD
This thread is for owners and lovers of Asian Ball-jointed Dolls. You, of course, do not need to own one to join in on our conversations. <33 Discuss which molds you have/want/like/dislike, photography, or just whatever.
Please, if you think dolls are creepy, keep it to yourself -- I don't really care. And also, while it's fine to state your opinion, no bashing. I know there are some fugly dolls out there, but I don't want to start a war. XD
For anyone who has NO idea what I'm talking about--> go here.
I myself ooown ... too many!
I have 3 SDs: a DOD Sha, Elfdoll Hazy, and some beastly girl with a DK Ryu head; 2 MSDs: Bluefairy Emilie and Xiao; 1 Tiny: BBB March; and ... a Pullip Veritas. XD
A couple of them are character dolls (the Hazy and the Ryu - although I certainly MADE characters for my other dolls >_>;), and I think that's all I'm going to be getting from now on, unless I really fall in love with one. I only want one other doll at the moment, and that's a Supia Roda @3@;; But I am content in waiting for that, especially since I only work one day a week! haha. Two more I plan on having made of my characters, but not for a loooong time.
Sooo, what about you guys?

I love, love Supia's girl bodies. *loves their bellies* I honestly can't see myself owning any of them. Maybe one. I just don't care for their faces. I love Naiara's Lina, though. (Sorry, everyone. Must be registered to view.) And in that vein, Lina's the "one" I might someday get.
Being a jobless, homeschooled teenager with many medical bills (lawlyay clinical depression, GAD, and paranoid delusions. <3 I am a pharmacy.) I only have three BJDs at the moment, only my newest not SD sized. (Before I went to a doll show meetup and played with a Littlefee there, I never imagined myself ever getting anything smaller. But . . the littlefee! <3333 Tinies don't look that cute on the internet, and I've always thought that if you want an MSD, just go the twenty cm taller for an SD. I have changed, though.)
Anyway, here is my rather small list.
SD: Migidoll Ryu/AOD Body, and a Leekeworld Koji, gentle body.
Tiny: Resin Soul Red Ox <3
I almost could have added a Limhwa To L to that list, as my dad is amazing and was going to get him for me as an early combination Christmas/Graduation gift, but no lie, within the ten minutes after he made the decision and had time to make the order, he was sold out. D= Made me sad, as he was the perfect sculpt for a certain character (all dolls except for the Ox are chosen to suit existing characters.) Not too upset, though. I keep telling my dad I don't want his money for my dolls. o= At least, not unless I do honest work for it.
Mini rant: I hate watching teenagers on doll forums complain about their parents not helping them out/buying them dolls or even just supporting their hobby. I find it ridiculous. >|
Leander (Ryu) was my first doll, his head from the 2007 Fall release. I only consider myself as being in the hobby since then, even though I'd been looking at them for a few years before finally getting one. I have to say my wishlist is pretty small. I'm drooling over Soom's Chrom, but I don't have the money for him and I shudder at the prices of him on the secondhand market. xD; (This. Coming from a person whose grail doll = Bermann. HAHAHAHA. HAHAHAH. Ha.)

| I have seen a few around before and I really really want one however I can't justify spending the money on one right now T.T and I tend to pick the pricey ones too. However before I was to even try buying one I feel I need to do more research the casually browsing the sites and being taken by a pretty face >>; right now the Tender Shall on D.O.D. has my attention as I love how she has the half open eyes, very elegant.

Hahah. Being taken by pretty faces is what it's all about! =D
If half open eyes is what you like, you'll find them everywhere.
I do want to say, though, that I applaud you for your restraint. They are luxury items, but I don't think a lot of people realise this. Much kudos for realising there is no real justification for them and the money you might possibly spend on them. (=
One tip, though. When you do get one, if you have any artistic talent at all, or are familiar with any kind of 3D art (even doing your own make up) I want to suggest not ordering company face ups or sending them off to someone to do them. They're going to have to be redone eventually, and if you do it yourself you'll be more likely to get what you want exactly. I know a lot of people speak against it, but even if you don't think you could paint one, I think you should try. It's so much more rewarding, and even though you have to spare the money for materials, you'll save in the long run (especially if you get hooked and end up getting several dolls).

| What's this? Luxury items? No justification?! *rolls around in resin parts*
Yeaaah, painting your own faces. I'm going to be doing that sometime soon to three of my dolls, whenever the heck I get around to buying supplies. I have seen some truuuuly hideous faceups though sooo.. >_>;; I'm not sure if I can agree with you on the always give it a shot thing. hahaha...
Edit:
LOL oh yeah, but I've gotten them all over time. I got my first one, the Sha, with my birthday money and a bunch of money I got through various means. I got my Emilie as a graduation gift. XD THAT was the only one I didn't buy wholly or partially. I got a job the fall after I graduated, and that was basically how I got the rest. My friend bought my Xiao for me, lol, as a sort of loan, so we could do a group order (paid her back in full of course). I got Hazy with xmas money and job money. The DK Ryu/AOD I got... over .. time XD; and the BBB I bought 'cause I COULD. YEAH. Actually two of mine have AOD bodies. XDD I sold my DOD's body and bought two AOD bodies 'cause I had a floating head... lol. Thrifty. Then I first had a Miho head which is HUGE especially when you're using it for a girl XD even if I liked it, it was ridiculous-looking... I sold that and made $80 after I bought a new head. YEAH.

PSH. xD; I know the feeling! xD; While they are amazing, you do have to admit. They might have made our lives happier (more miserable? *grabs at lack of money*) it's not like we couldn't live without them. xDD

See, my views on all this are different than most. My first doll was an unpainted head, and as a newcomer to the hobby I was wary about sending him off to be painted. So I was more or less forced to learn how to do face ups from the start. Mine weren't horrible. As a person with low self esteem anyway, I wouldn't have felt comfortable taking him out if other doll collectors would have been around and I knew it, but I would still take him places. I've gotten a lot better, and only recently I went to a meet up (at a big doll show - I only go to doll show meets. *skirts a lot of the drama*) and he was very well recieved. In two years and maybe five face ups, he got complimented by collectors who had been in the hobby for years.
Honestly? The only thing wrong with the people who do horrible face ups isn't that they, well, do horrible face ups. The people who can admit that they're ugly? Those people are great, and as long as they have the desire to do the face ups theirselves, they will get better. The only people in this hobby I would not want to associate with are those that do horrible work and delude themselves into thinking it's beautiful. Those that do jobs that end up in DoD's Poison and don't strive to be any better.
As long as you want to do well and you accept you may have to work for it, I think anybody could do them. Granted, there is a bit of a requirement of natural talent when it comes to art in general, and I'm sure there are some people who may plateau on face ups when they're not as good as they would like them to be, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I've seen your artwork, Kaishi. You're very good, and you clearly know your way around the human face. I think you could do it.
. . . yep!

| It is probably the combo of half open and blue eyes that caught my attention XP
I will have to look in to painting my own, I have had a few makeup classes so I don't see it going to badly >>;;
Part of me hopes that IF I get back to Japan I can buy them at the source...I find that tends to go better for me as I can see and feel exactly what I am getting.

| lol, as long as you like Volks. DOD comes from Korea, as do pretty much all of the other companies. I wanted to visit the Volks shop in Tokyo when I was there last year, but I was sick so I couldn't. ^^;
Neff-- LoL, thank you :bounce: I think painting your own faces is great, just... yeah, some people just cannot see that what they have done is hideous XD;;

Not just Volks. Soom has a store in Japan. I do believe it's in the Harajuku area. See?
(. . . I'm horrible. Upon looking at those photos I realised I missed a monthly. xDD;; Oh, dear. Good thing I don't like him. xD; *facepalm*)
And while they do all originate in Korea, are there actually any stores there? o= I'm weird. I want to go to Korea. No plans on ever setting foot in Japan. Weird, huh?
Hahah, it's true that some people can't. But that's what critique forums are for. ;D I'm a pessimist, so I don't have that problem. xD; I always think what I do is bad.

WTFFF no waaay!!! I was in Harajuku so many times!! XDD JERKS, it must be in the big and uninteresting business area. I would have loved to go in there and cough all over their merchandise! XD That's not faaair..... oh well, next time *3*
And Korea is awesome. I want to go there too. I'm seriously considering teaching in Korea for a while after Japan. As far as I know, the people there are at least a lot more friendly. XD Of course, the people in the Japanese countryside were super nice, but oh well. I shouldn't talk about Japan in my BJD thread, haha. But.. I will XD Why don't you want to go? I mean, their culture is just so beautiful and the cities are awesome, and the countryside is AWESOME. I love rural Japan. ;__; I mean well... Korea is fine too. I love Korea lol.
Kerry - LoL Tokyo is SO STUPID to navigate precisely, unless you know where something is. I mean, I've never been lost in Japan, but as far as stores go.... in true Japanese fashion, everything is just jam-packed in there. My friend and I spent like an entire day walking around the wasteland that is Ikebukuro trying to find the animate. I was sick so I went back to the hotel, but she NEVER found it. XD True tragedy. I could've found that store too if I had even known it was there ;__; I went to Harajuku all the time and walked from there to Shibuya (for exercise, lol.. I guess 'cause i needed it? walking from 8 am to 10 pm anyway.. lol.. NO I DID NOT).
In conclusion, I plan on moving there to teach for a while. During my time off, I think I'll travel to Korea and China! XD haha. I wonder if there are BJD stores in Korea.... I hope there are, at least little ones :<
Long post is dumb. XD; I should go get ready to go.... >_> to my grandparents' house.
