When battling you mainly just need a newbie weapon. :3 Only when you want to be more productive is when you get more expensive ones.

Also, is healing available only by the temple? Or the wounds might heal after some time as well?

That's an interesting idea, but the temple is still the only way to heal wounds. You may also buy some items at the magic shop for in-battle healing. :3
