I've fortunately never been robbed, but I've had my apartment broken into twice.

I was 20, just moved in three days before so everything I had was still in boxes, including my PC, mp3 player, and a few other little electronic knicknacks. I had a Gameboy advanced then, I think, not ds.. No, wait, it was DS cuz I uzed it for an alarmclock for a few weeks.

Anyway, I had just laid down, and, well, I lived in Utah at the time, so you'd think it'd be safe with a lot of church goers and stuff, right? I even lived right across from the Logan temple. BEAUTIFUL view, by the way.

Anyway, the apartment was two rooms, kitchen and dining room were one room (Carpeted, ugh, I wanted to rip it all up and just have a concrete floor), and my room right through the doorway. You could walk the entirety of my apartment in less than fifteen seconds at minimal strides.

The bathroom was off to the side. Anyway, the windows were all storm glass except for the one in my room, which couldn't lock, but you couldn't open the little buggar for the life of you. If you did, you'd make so much noise neighbors could hear it. Generally if I got locked out, I could open it up if I got about eighteen things to stand on. The window was at least seven feet up from the ground level, it was extremely hard to get through and very heavy so it fell easily.

Anyway, back to the story. I was completely by myself, and I'd just finally gotten into my bed to go to sleep when I heard someone literally shaking my front door. The screen was hard to lock, so I generally just left it alone cuz there was a hole in it anyway. I locked my door, but you could jerk it open.

Anyway, I woke up to the sound of rattling, and immediately grabbed my box cutter that was beside me. I extended the blade all the way. This was a brand new cutter, so it was nice and sharp and could easily make you wish you'd just not messed with me that morning. I put on a robe, and opened the door that lead into my room which used to be just an office. I saw someone trying to get in, so I shouted like I was trying to wake someone up. It scared them off.

But they got smart.

My grandparents came by for a visit and cleaned up my apartment and everything. They helped me completely redo it since my landlord at the time didn't really care so long as I didn't bring any dogs or anything into it.

Basically, the apartment I was in, was a garage that was suddenly walled off with a gas heater and a kitchen and bathroom was put in. THe floor in the bathroom was rotted away to where there was a hole in front of the sink. THe shower was disgusting (I generally took a shower by washing my hair while standing outside of the stall, and I'd just maneuver myself around for the rest.) It was right off the side next to the kitchen. The walls were covered with dog urine and kibble was everywhere when I got the place. But I'd been desperate and just did a lot of repair work of my own by hand. It took a while to get it just right.

We completely fixed it into a house including my stereo, television, and everything that I purchased while I was there. Even a desk for my PC So I wasn't sitting on the floor the entire time. But shortly after they left, someone tried breaking in again. It was night time, I still had my box cutter beside me, and I heard the door rattling again. I got it, but this time, still dressed, made my way into the kitchen. They actually had gotten inside.

I grabbed my box cutter, and was shouting so much I actually made the man urinate on himself and he ran out. I knew who it was, it was a Hispanic neighbor of mine who didn't speak English. He was always whistling at me and trying to pinch my wallet out of my pocket when I checked the mail. I called the police, and his stupidity ended up getting him and his entire family sent back to Mexico. He was not only a thief, he was an illegal immigrant. Just goes to show you how stupid some people can be. If you're on the lamb, you generally, you know, keep a low profile and don't do anything stupid.

My grandfather was Hispanic, so he'd try speaking to them, but they thought he might be a cop (he doesn't look his age and he's very much in shape) so they avoided him. We ended up selling a lot of my things when I left to come back home to make up for the repair costs that I'd spent on my place. The landlord let me out of the contract because of the safety issues and all the rennovations we did on the place. He could sell it without any problems now, I just hope that they fired the dumbass that was in charge of heating. It's a gas heater and everything was run with gas. Nothing worked for the first three weeks I lived there (in the middle of winter no less) with no heat, no hot water, no working stove. I lived off of tv dinners and hot chocolate for the entire time.

I'm glad I came back, but I do miss the job opportunities I had back there..

Yep! I was robbed twice!

1st time) - It was Christmas. The house next to us had two families living in it. The kids from the second floor played with us all the time... and then robbed us at Christmas. We came back to the house from staying with relatives to open out own presents to find things ruined... The sterro system and speakers were gone, our TV, many toys and etc. things, and all our presents except 2 that we knew of (one for me and one for my little brother). The way they got in was by busting my little brother's bedroom window and slitting its screen.

To this day, even tho we live in a different house now, my brother doesn't like being in the house by himself (even tho none of us were there when it happend). And if the shower curtain is closed when he goes into the bathroom he'll open it and leave it open.

The wrapping paper to all the other presents was in THEIR trash cans. The police never came... They got away with it. Years later when we were moving we found a third surviving present under my parents' bed. One from my father to my mother, an addtion to her aquamarine and gold dolphin jewlery set which she no longer had.

2nd time) - It was easter, we had the kids we played with down the block watch the house for us so they could keep the cats fed while we visited family in Chicago. Well thank god my grandparents drove up on the fateful night in question... because they were going to burn our house down when they were done.

We came home to a completely jacked up interior. Everything, was everywhere... And mom had put a piece of scotch tape from the top of the door freme to the top of the door so she could see if they opened doors they weren't supposed to. All of the tape pieces were folded in from their doors having been opened. They had also written themselves a check for 'house keeping'. Matches... were strewn everywhere on both the first and second floors.

~~~
So ya... They almost burned our house for us on easter. Lovely huh?
YES, I HAVE. IT WAS HORRIBLE.
I think the robbery happened during the night. The person accessed our garage by damaged the door knob, and apparently, if you opened it without the keys, it can open! It was horrible!
The person stole a new lawn mower, and a ton of shoes that was supposed to be for my brother when he was younger. I'm pretty sure the robber stole many more things, but I forgot what. AND, this robbery happened... maybe around Easter? I think so.
Some jerk smashed in one of the windows of our workshop and stole several pieces of expensive equipment. My parents ran a weaving loom business at the time, so they had to put off a bunch of orders until they could buy replacements.
Another time was an almost-but-not-quite robbery. I was up late reading, and it was a summer night so I had my window open. I hear these footsteps coming up our gravel driveway, and suddenly my dog -- a big, burly golden retriever who sleeps outside -- lets out this absolutely terrifying roar, which made me jump so high I nearly fell out of my chair. After that, I heard some guy swearing and rapidly retreating footsteps.
I love my doggie.
I've never been robbed, thank goodness. x_x My gosh, these stories are so scary. I'm such a wimp, so I'd probably faint from horror/shock if somebody robbed us.
We had our garage door open once for several hours with nobody in the house (we had gone to NY; a few hours' trip back and forth), but nothing was stolen. I live in a pretty good neighborhood, at least from what I know.
And one time, it was really late at night; the back door, which is near where I was at, started shaking. It sounded like somebody was trying to open the door, so I ran to my room and huddled up with the phone next to me, in case I needed to call the cops. But it was just the wind. I was crying and trembling. D:
Also, both of my dogs are tiny, and both of them are scaredy cats like me. xD; I don't think that they'd help in a case of robbery.
I myself have never been robbed unless the four or five pens I loaned out in throughout my high school years that were never returned count.
But my mom has been robbed. She has had her purse robbed from the car once and another time the car stereo was robbed. That time I was a little kid and I remember thinking it was all my fault for forgetting to lock the car door the previous day as we had found my door unlocked. However after my mom called the police we went back to the car to go to McDonald's and we discovered the lock on my side was destroyed.
Someone broke into are car too when my Mom parked it, I forget where, but someone broke in the front window, and you know the only thing that was gone? The one pound coin that my Mom kept on the dashboard for shopping trolleys, I mean seriously who breaks into a car for that? Anyway I don't think my Mom has ever quite gotten over the shock of the fact that all they took was a one pound coin, I suppose there was nothing else to take at the time.
Wow that is the most pointless theft I have ever heard of.
There actually was one other time I myself was robbed. I was at Disneyland with my family in 2002, I was sixteen. I had bought this had that looked like Goofy with his snout as the visor part and ears on the sides. We were in a store and I set it down RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME as I looked at a book and a second later it was gone. So my family let me get a Mickey wizard hat to replace it.
No, but someone broke into my mum's summer house. But most of the stuff that was stolen didn't belong to her but to her BF whatever something. Still kinda sucks I guess, they stole a lot. Even the freaking door to the garden.
Wow that is really quite horrible that your friend's stuff was stolen. However in reality I think maybe you forgot to lock the door because of concern over your friend. So it really cant be blamed on you. I am sure now she is in heaven smiling down at you just the same.
I have never personally had anything of mine stolen. Except for school supplies in high school etc. Never had anything stolen yet in college. I once had my assignment book stolen from me. It was stolen by a girl that though that I was going to steal her boyfriend. Honestly. She always thought that with every boyfriend she ever had. COME ON! Her first boyfriend was a jerk. A total jerk. It may have appeared I liked him because the teacher always gave me an assigned seat next to him. URG. Stupid teachers.
Her second boyfriend I will admit, was a hottie. But that was before he had some crazy encounters with some random girls if you get my meaning. Anyways....yeah. My experience with this topic is limited.
Umm..though one time I was standing outside of JC penny and a guy ran out with a purse and jumped into the back of a car right in front of me and him and two girls drove away while I stood and watched and a sequerity guard ran after them.
I also witnessed a man steal an old woman's purse outside of walmart. It was really stange to me. Lots of people got his number plate. I guess there just isnt much in the way of crime here. Not like other places.
Oy... I need to zen out before I get too much bile in my system...
